If it wasn't fenced/marked off properly the workers could find themselves in a hole lot of trouble.

I wonder if the guys bike was hole in one piece when they pulled it out.

It was certainly well fenced off when I drove past it the day before. The picture seems to suggest that he went straight through the barrier into the hole.

Yes, PM. Bright sunny afternoon. Only invisible if you are blind or looking the other way!

He must be a cyclepath to do something like that.

fairplay to cycling in his 70's - less so to cycling into large holes.

Indeed. It's a bloody good job he's not behind the wheel of a car, if he can't see that hole going what id imagine is slow on a bike, imagine what he'd do in a car.

I've managed to cycle past this very same "dangerous" hole in the road several times this week, without accident or injury! I must be very lucky! wink

I think the adjective "dangerous" is better applied to the cyclist than the hole hehe

Regardless of whether he should have seen the hole or not, if the hole was not barriered the contractors are going to get reamed!

Well, the road is closed, barriers have looked pretty well-sited each time I've cycled past this week, and there's a short and easy diversion in place.

I guess there's a risk of student pranks moving barriers but I'd expect that to be an overnight/early morning issue, not mid-afternoon.
