Ok my semi dilapidated runaround is becoming a dent magnet attracting a new dent/scratch every 4 months in our glorious capital, so apart from the obvious suggestions of a tank or helicopter, is there any else to get apart from a 4x4 with tow bar and bull bars???

Why bother? Keep your runaround and let the dents grow.

Maybe get a cheap snotter, you won't be precious about it getting inevitable bumps.

Simple. Anything made of GRP. Try a Lotus Elise for starters.

Volvo 740/940. I've never seen one with a dent in.

Too brittle. trust me I've had one and combination of low down car meaning lack of visibilty for large vehicles reversing. Add in a towbar and the panel is punctured.

They do, and in fact London is one of the few places where they make sense- you hardly ever go above 30 mph, and parking spaces are like gold dust.

This will make no logical sense, but attitude seems to help. Let me (attempt) to explain.

The Lexus is my 'tool'. It gets used for business miles, it gets used for commuting, it gets used for doing the weekly shop and it gets parked on the street (most of this takes place in London). As much as I love the car I park it where I like, if someone wants to try and force their way into my lane (while I am there) I think 'hit it then, go ahead' and all sorts of similar thoughts take place when I'm in the car.

End result, in over a year I have attracted no dents. Not one, nor a scrape, scuffed wheel or anything.

If that was in the TVR I would be driving it like it was made of eggshell, worrying about where I leave it and by now it would be a scratched and dented mess.

See, I told you it wouldn't make sense, but it works.

A Ford Ka. It's exactly what it was designed for.

I've driven my 1984 Series 3 Landy through central London at rush hour a couple of times. It's quite amazing how much space you get given (and consequently, the progress you can make) in something which has a dent in every panel, half its paint peeling off and looking like its owner really doesn't give a sh*t about it.

Indeed, Land Rover Series x/Defender. It's bodywork comes pre-dented from the factory. wink

Ford Transit (white). Perfect driving position for London, and people assume that you are probably going to do unpredictable things and take them out. Failing that, an early 90s Merc? The assumption there is that you are probably "somebody" with old money, and know plenty of people who can "sort things" and will so tend to keep out of your way.

I used to drive a 4.0 Jeep in London. It was black, dirty, with large bull bars. Everyone steered clear and I never had an issue. Speed bumps were an excuse to try and get airbourne. Great fun, cheap, no worries. Any dents would only add to the character of a proper off roader.

My Volvo hasn't attracted one scrape, kerbed wheel, scratch, bit of vandalism or car park fkwittery in well over a year.

The panels are fairly tough but I think the main saviour is that the car is a snotter, is treat as a snotter and I've never been precious about it.

When I've cared about such things I've picked up all manner of dents and dings, maybe lady luck knows when you care.
