This word 'hoon' has been a core of the PH philosophy from the start, however, I am still not entirely sure I get it?

Is it when you take your p&j for a drive of any discription, drive like you are on fire, drive for the hell of it or just a bimble to the shops?

Is the goon ruined if you scare yourself, if you can't shake the Zafira in the twisties, your car develops a fault?

Is it enhanced by a random occurrence like an act of goodwill by you or another road user, a stunning view opening up in front of you or driving through a rain storm onto a dry road?

Is it more about the enjoyment of simply driving or driving to the best of your ability or the car's?

What is a 'hoon' to you and what does it make you feel?

A hoon is a drive for the pleasure of driving.

Doesn't matter what the vehicle is or where the destination is as long as you enjoy it.

I would say a hoon needs to be of a reasonably spirited pace. Not necessarily 10/10ths, you can't 'hoon' round a track, but to my mind the very definition of 'hooning' is to be driving ever so slightly as a hooligan would smile

If you're not bumbling, you're hooning.

For me a 'hoon' is when I go for a drive for no reason other than I have a car and some fuel.

It could be a fast run over some quiet roads, a night time run out into somewhere remote, or a nice slow run out on a summers day.

What you drive isn't important and how fast your drive doesn't matter, what does matter is not being a numpty and not annoying anyone else on purpose.

Actually it seems to have crept into common usage over the last 4 or 5 years. Makes me cringe whenever I read it, sounds like a bunch of 17 year olds going out Corsas to me...

This sums it up for me driving

A hoon is never the same for me - sometimes I go out just for the sake of a drive. Sometimes I feel like cruising. Other times I feel like driving as though my pants were on fire, but however I drive I enjoy the process, feel and sensations of the car/ bike on the road.

Usually involves pushing on a bit (but not flat out) on some good quiet a / b roads smile

Just a ride, you and the machine in perfect harmony, flying along the road, keeping it between the hedges, feeling so alive.

Until the damn 40 mph cruiser...

At least in the 4 years I've been here!

For me it is the slightly over the norm, spirited drive. Today i turned into my road with a rattly old prelude behind me, I could tell by the way he was usin the road that he was enjoying the drive. He encouraged me to pass my driveway and carry on another 5 miles or so just for the hell of it. Brilliant!

There's a guy with an MX5 round our way with 'Hoonigan' stickers on it so I'm sure he's some sort of champion hooner. He looks like a fat, bed wetting paedo but that's irrelevant I guess

A Hoon for me is nipping out to the shops for a loaf and a pint of milk(shop 5 minutes away) normally early morning quiet roads and you end up out for an hour and an extra 30/40 mile on great roads sometimes at pace bu just for the enjoyment of even a corner that you like or a tunnel(and a drop down a gear with the roof down for the straight 6 noise).
Any and all of these things, I'm lucky I stay on the A82 10 minutes from Balloch and the road to the Highlands etc.

You lucky sod, that is a beautiful stretch of road! My personal favourite is the road from fort william to mallaig, not the a82 but a cracker on a crisp autumn morning

Exactly! yes

Even though (these days) I'm driving a diesel with a DSG box, a trip to the corner shop involves either a 5-minute walk or a drive up the bypass to the next town, followed by a return through the lanes biggrin
