Because statistically you are a higher risk than somebody who hasn't had a claim. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time, whereas Joe Bloggs wasn't... so he's a lower risk.

This happened to a colleague of mine. He questioned it and was told that statisticly he is more likely to have an accident after a no fault claim.

Statistics eh.

Think of it as no claim, rather than no blame.

Insurance companies seem to pick and choose which statistics they want to use to justify price hikes.

For example, if statistically drivers with 9 points made less claimss for lower amounts (therefore lower risk) insurance will still be more expensive for them as it can be justified by other means (the driver speeds so is more likely to crash)

Are they open about the fact that that's why your insurance has gone up?

There's also the matter of defensive driving. I know this is not always relevant, but the argument I heard was that a lot of accidents could be pre-empted or avoided by the 'non fault' party.

In other words, when some dozy bint pulls out into the road the blame may lie with her, but the result is partly up to whether or not the oncoming driver reacts accordingly.

When I was hit in the rear while at a red light I thought it was a simple case, not so!! 18 months later !!at the small claims court it went 50/50?? Long story but the other driver pulled a fast one and his solicitor got the better of mine. Of course all this legal stuff was paid for by our insurers,no wonder we pay so much for insurance, and yes my policy and the other chaps went up and we both had to pay 50% excess.

Because they have noticed that people who have had a non-fault claim are more likely to cost them money down the line. That's all there is to it.

This has happened to me twice.

Lady reverses into me in a petrol station, drives off. Gave my insurance her details (turns out she wasnt insured), they sent her a letter that she didnt reply to and gave up. I paid for everything to my car, no claim what so ever. I literally just informed them it had occured. - £1000 INCREASE in my insurance come renewal time.

Then, 5 years later - someone crashed into my parked car, we swapped details- there was no debate as to who was at fault. I refused any help from my insurance, no claim was made with them but contacted them in the first instance. I was in direct contact with the other chaps insurers and dealt with them soley. £300 Increase come renewal time.

Its fair to say the Admiral group wont be getting my custom again.

Because of this, I will do everything to avoid involving insurers in future, I merely have it to abide by the law and in the worst case. And if I have to make a claim against someone (damage to my car), then I will go to town with it now- As its nigh on impossible to claim for the increase in my future insurance premiums.

It's a funny old world.

So we need insurance to protect us from our insurance going up when a non isured wker drives into our parked cars, due to the retarded way the insurance company operates.

Welcome to Britain !
