Every petrol station in the western universe appears to be turning into a Shell. Are they offering free blow jobs to franchise holders or something?

Also should I buy a 2.7 diesel S-Type or get a 3.0 petrol and damn the mpg?

Not sure about Shell, but in response to the Jag, get the petrol. Unleaded is cheaper, doncha know... biggrin

A lot of Total stations are being rebranded as Shells.

easier access to V Power, a good thing IMO

The Waitrose near me is having its petrol station converted to Shell as we speak/type

Edit: Oh the 3.0 any day

All our Shell stations have been turned into BPs, it's a bit of a pain because three weeks before it changed I got myself a VPower card that I now can't use.

Also, to hell with MPG, get the 3.0L!

You'll be filling up that often if you get the petrol one, you can ask the garage yourself about the blowjobhehe

I've had the 3.0 X-type & don't know if it's the same engine as the S-type but it's quite a thirsty lump. At 250 miles, you really really needed to find a petrol station (Shell or otherwise!). Nice car the S-type though & very much a bargain now.

Same here... But as another poster said Totals are moving over as well. And we had a BP convert to Shell a year or so ago. So that's 4 in the last 12 months.

I suspect same engine. Numbers say there is 10 mpg between to diesel and 3.0. (I'd like a 4.2 v8 but I don't think I'll be able to afford the fuel!)

The local total has become a shell, was getting a bit run down so needed something doing. All the others have become flats so could be worse.

Great isn't it!

I had just one Shell in my local area which was a bit of a pain but now I have 4 on my route to work!

Amazingly the 4 Shell gas stations are only separated by 12 miles and the prices vary from 143.9 to 149.9 for V Power.

Got a Shell being converted from a Total where I am.

And as for the Jag question - do you really have to get an S Type?

Closest 'Shell' to my current location (work frown ) was recently converted to a BP, which I use only for tasty but pricey M&S lunch.

3.0l petrol. Sounds lovely with a sportier pipe (my next purchase). I'm getting an average of 27mpg on a 50/50 mix of A-roads & motorway on my 300 mile round trip weekly commute. It sits on the motorway showing 34-36mpg with cruise set to around 76. Range is around 380 miles.

Well no.

But the "rules" are. 200BHP+, minimum 30mpg, <70,000 miles, 4/5 doors, plenty of space inside, < £7k.

S-Types are hitting all those boxes and coming in well under budget. Similar 5 series are available, but always seem to be a bit older or higher mileage.

It'll be replacing a Avensis diesel which I like driving, (lots of motorway cruise and sleep..), but would like more poke.

If you're looking at 3.0 S Types, have a look at a 3.2 XJ8. Much nicer cars to be in and drive, economy won't be much different.

And then you'll inevitably end up looking at the 4.0 XJ8, which is significantly pokier, and will average 25mpg.

Down in rural Devon, I found Shell almost non existant, normally BP or Texaco...

I haven't noticed more Shells where I am, just fewer Essos and BPs.
