Oh no not another fake Ferrari
Discussion
I have been disappointed to discover today that the Daytona used in Miami Vice was is actual fact a replica, the may be common knowledge but it's news to me.
Are there any other 'famous' cars that are replicas?

Yup, totally common knowledge. Ferrari North America threatened to sue, but by then Miami Vice was so big that they negotiated the use of several Testarossas instead, and the Daytona bit the dust, blown up in one of the episodes.
Amusingly, in one episode the MV "Daytona" is in the "shop", and there's a yellow Daytona in there which is a real one. Some glaring differences such as chrome door handles on the fake, the real one has little catches on top of the doors.

By the way, fake or not, still totally the coolest car ever to appear on screen.

I think they did make some Astons for that same bond film using 4x4 running gear mated to Mustang V8 engines. On another note, Eleanor in Gone in 60 seconds is a fake GT500.

The Z4 in ... Golden Eye (I think) wasnt a real one.
BMW wanted the car in the film, but didnt have production cars ready, so lent them a prototype and told them to make copies which had to live up to BMW quality.
It was a Z8 in Golden Eye which was a replica, not a Z4. Still, as it was cut in half that probably wasn't a bad thing!BMW wanted the car in the film, but didnt have production cars ready, so lent them a prototype and told them to make copies which had to live up to BMW quality.

Good job too, as Testarossa looked way way cooler.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
