I'm not sure if this thread occurs every few months, so apologies in advance if needed.

So thinking of investing in a 'future classic' in the next 3-6 months and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on a car that you could buy today, wrap in cotton wool and then make a tidy profit in 5/10/20 years (I'm 25 so time frame is pretty flexible). My budget is pretty flexible but was thinking around the 15k limit (to minimise risk more than anything), but could be stretched I guess.

Lets make it a top 3 thread... go! idea

Do we go "on 3" or count to 3 and then go?

needs to be rare, and have a bit of a following. For £15k I would say clio V6 or Z3M coupe

have you tried the search function?

I know it's not great, but there are quite a few threads found regarding this.

I did run a search function, however failed to find a thread that provided the information I needed tbh

Would 15k get you into a Mk2 Ford Focus RS?

Ford Racing Puma - Cheap alternative, cant be more than 250 about today.

Skyline R32 GT-R, Give it 20 Years, when they have ALL been molested, a standard one will go for a mint.

can get both for 15k with change

Someone on here bought a Subaru P1 for £4k recently. With some haggling you might get 4 of them for your £15k and then you'll corner the market when they are as valuable as mk2 Escorts are these days*.

I did ponder an R32 GT-R, I ask myself if I could really keep it off the road for that long wobble

Do they age well without much use though? I have always been on the opinion jap cars tend to age better with use rather than bubble wrap, I am probably wrong though?

Add the following:

Z3M Roadster
Z4M Coupe/Roadster
Escort Cosworth (Monte if in budget)
M3 (E46) CS
R26R Megane (carbon bonnet jobby)
Honda S2000 (maybe?)
Honda Civic Type R (original)
E36 M3 Evo
Mk1 Focus RS
Racing Puma
Early limited edition classic Imprezas/Evos
Lotus Carlton
Sapphire Cosworth

Probably a few more too.....

Another vote for the Escort Cosworth.

I reckon they will only depreciate now when we run out of petrol. By which time they will be classed as historical art anyway. Either way, a win-win!

Add the following:

Z3M Roadster - the z3m coupe would be better as it's rarer imho
Z4M Coupe/Roadster - too new and too many produced
Escort Cosworth (Monte if in budget) - yes, but again less racing pedigree than a 3dr RS Cosworth, newer and more common so a 3DR would be better here
M3 (E46) CS - hmm, never will meet the same status as an M3 CSL so i'd not go for this one
R26R Megane (carbon bonnet jobby)- just can't see it personally, a clio V6, maybe
Honda S2000 (maybe?) - no way
Honda Civic Type R (original) - too common, many in japan
E36 M3 Evo - it would have to be v v good original example, E30 M3 for 15k would be better
Mk1 Focus RS - yes but quite common
Racing Puma - not really
Early limited edition classic Imprezas/Evos
Lotus Carlton - good shout
Sapphire Cosworth - 3dr better

Probably a few more too.....
an air cooled 911 if you can get a good narrowbody 3.2 for that price, I sound like a broken record but a 3DR cosworth which are currently going up, an integrale evo.

I think it has to be an 80's car as 90's cars are too modern and may not start rising for 10 years. plus, 90's cars have driver aids and the days of the golden era of touring cars and world rallying died off a little.

Jensen Interceptor. Only going to go one way.
Mazda RX8. Proper tidy one, sorted engine and change. Only going to go one way (look at NSU Ro80 values)
Mk2 Jag. Yes, went up (and back down) but will steadily increase again.
TVR Cerbera 4.5 In 20 years will be as rare as hen's teeth.
Rover P5 Coupé.

Any sporting Ford that's in budget.

Interesting point, with the oil supply dwindling, I probably didn't take in to account if there will be a huge market in 20 years time for petrol cars.

I guess people would want a life size model however, good back up plan smile
