My parents are moving back to France in just over a year's time and would like a new car for a year only.
Is this possible? I was thinking of a Toyota Aygo or similar.

Long term hire with somewhere like Hertz can probably be negotiated, expect to have to change the car after 6 months.

I doubt there's any other cost effective way of doing it without hassle.

Surely buying a shed is going to be the cheapest and best value option?

Whats the reasoning for wanting a brand new car for a year? Why not go for nearly new or a couple of years old to avoid the worst of the depreciation?

Do they not have a car at the moment that could last another year?

Peugeot do the 107 as a "Just add fuel" arrangement and give it back when they've finished.

Probably better buying a popular used car, like a MINI, for a year though.

They had a bad accident in a 13 yr old Corolla last week, car roof had to be cut off so I'd like them in something safer. Doesn't have to be new but newish. They've spent most of their lives in France so wouldn't get a personal loan either.

Peugeot do the Just Add Fuel on most of their cars.

Just buy a one or two year old one and flog it afterwards. It will still have a warranty for the time they own it.
Sell it back to the dealer, or privately, afterwards.

I'd imagine that anything else will cost just as much.

Few months old from a dealer:

Bit older, private sale:

You'd effectively be renting one for £100/month with a full warranty.

Buy a car in France - whatever they want. Smoke it here for a year and then take it back when they move there.

Hope they are ok! Presumably the 13 year old corrola did a decent enough job of protecting them though? What's the thinking that a brand new c1 or such is going to be safer than a 5 year old 3 series?

No idea how safe a 13 year old Corolla is, but you want to put them in an Aygo?!!!!!!!
That's about as small as cars come. Surely something like a Golf would be safer

Did do a decent enough job, but I reckon they were just very lucky. A new Yaris perhaps would be more fitting!

Ling has Fords on 1 year (3+11) leases, Fiesta from £226/month.

Plenty of places if you google "1 year lease", "long term car hire" or similar. I had a car stolen a while ago, was quoted 16 weeks for a replacement so looked into various options. Most of the major hire companies do pretty good rates on longer term hire, especially if you don't mind switching cars occasionally.
