Poor man's F-Type Coupe
Discussion
So to celebrate the arrival of the fabulous rump of the F-Type coupe I thought I'd have a nose through the classifieds to see what cars I could come up with for a few grand (say £3k for the sake of argument) that would give you something that kind of resembled those lovely, lovely haunches.
I didn't come up with much - perhaps a tatty mk4 Supra, or an FD3S RX7? An old XK8? I think even those are out of the budget. Any brainwaves?
Then I remembered something: You can get fastback style hardtops for MX5s. Not cheaply, but you can get them. Because of the flat decklid that they sit on, they automatically create fantastic haunches like those possessed by the F, and oh crikey do they look nice:
Or perhaps sir would prefer an S2000?
These seem to inspire a similar "dear god, I must have it" reaction in me that the F-type does, so, mission accomplished?
As I said, these tops are not cheap, but (the MX5 anyway) could potentially come in under budget.
Does anybody else have any further suggestions?
If not, feel free to turn this into an aftermarket-fastback-hardtop-appreciation thread.

can you post a link to a website for those please
Agreed - can't find much after a few searches other than:"The year was 2004, and Mazda set up a cool drive event of a bunch of new limited edition Roadsters which, on top of the limited edition Turbo model, included this “factory” built Coupe. Not many of these cars were made, hand crafted by one of Mazda’s subsidiary coachworks companies where the metal roofs were hand welded onto the base Roadster bodies."
- from Speedhunters - and they don't appear to be referring to the hardtops you've posted pics of...more info definitely required!
The S2000 ones are Spoon, Mooncraft or Shine.
The most common MX5 one that I have seen is Autokonexion.
I too love a flowing roofline - it's why I modified my MR2 with custom made elongated buttresses:

Bonus grainy shots:
I'm a big fan of such relatively simple modifications, that change the character of the car in such a large way.

I've priced up the Mugen and Spoon hardtops more than once, and they still cost more than what I paid for my S2000
God I need a Mugen on though!!
Can get a replica at a more affordable price...God I need a Mugen on though!!

the fastbacks for mx5's are like rocking horse poo and even if you can find one and then get it shipped to the uk, the only ones i have seen are in america, theres a fair amount of work in getting them on and lots of filler, i used to have a bookmark of a project one and their was lots of filler and sanding.
i would imagine after buying a cheap mk1 for around £1000, it would be easily over £3500 by the time you get a roof on it.
