Popped out to the shops to pick up a couple of things and when I got back home I noticed the street outside my house was icy. My other car was parked on the drive too close to the street to fit another car in so I parked on the street with the intention of moving it onto the drive after my lunch.
During my lunch I saw out my window a vw beetle sliding on the ice and go into the back of my car. Arghhhhh!
The guy driving was apologetic and I stayed calm because it could have happened to anyone but I just know know that this is going to cost me come renewal time. I took pictures of damage to both cars and phoned the insurance company immediately. Looks like I need a new rear bumper and rear light unit. The beetle hit side on though and I am pretty sure it will be written off.
I will upload the pics once I get them off my phone.

I wouldn't be this calm if it was my boxster that was hit (it was the wife's saab).

By having an accident, even if it wasn't your fault you become a higher risk of having another one apparently. Any excuse to extort more money out of you...

Bit confused about who's car it is, but if it's your insurance policy then you will likely have a 10% increase come renewal time. It's what I ended up with for a none fault claim in the past.

I believe someone on here managed to claim for that as part of the settlement though because they argued that the point of insurance is not to leave you worse off so he wanted the difference back to cover the increased premiums for the next few years.

Repeat after me: IT IS JUST A CAR. (YES. EVEN THE BOXSTER)

It is why we pay for insurance.
The guy didn't mean it - and it is just one of those things.

Unfortunately he will be stung regardless of where the claim lies. Through no fault of your own the renewal will go up because he will now be considered a higher risk. Its a terrible situation to accept.

Not necessarily so.

Many people have been on here and have stated little or no change to policy cost, I am pretty sure it even dropped for one person. (Probably more to do with market conditions I suppose)

It is a real pisser OP though!

You can indeed claim for the increase in premium. There is case law to support this - speak to your insurer appointed solicitors.

TL;DR non fault claim didn't raise my premium.

A neighbour a couple of doors along whacked my car while it was parked up my drive (maybe car length and half from the pavement, we were never sure how she managed it).

They refused liability to the insurers so I had to pay excess to have it repaired.

My insurance had to be renewed at this point and i had to declare an at fault claim.

After about a month I got word the two insurers had reviewed and it would be non Fault for me and I was refunded the excess, refunded the difference in the new insurance for the fault accident and sent a new no claims.

Renewal after refund was within £6 of last year's.

I had two no fault claims in two years. Each time the car was parked at the roadside and hit by another. My premium didn't increase as a result.

I am glad to hear that there is a pretty chance my renewal price won't go up as a result.
To clear up any confusion. Me and wife own two cars between us. They both belong to "us". My wife generally drives the saab and therefor we refer to that car as "hers".
Here are the pics:

Christ! The Saab came off well there OP.

The Beetle will not be a write off though, looks fairly cosmetic. (IMO)

Care to qualify on said case law? (I know bugger all about this)

You may just have given some selective posters on here a collective coronary wink

The Beetle is an 02 plate so I don't imagine it will take much to write it off.

Insurance wise possibly, easy fix though.

I'd say the Bettle is a right off.

Other items that come up from time to time is diminished value.
If your car happened to be damaged sufficiently to be recorded, then come sale time you will get a lower value regardless of the quality of the repair.
This can be claimed also.
