Someone crashed into my car today
Discussion
Popped out to the shops to pick up a couple of things and when I got back home I noticed the street outside my house was icy. My other car was parked on the drive too close to the street to fit another car in so I parked on the street with the intention of moving it onto the drive after my lunch.
During my lunch I saw out my window a vw beetle sliding on the ice and go into the back of my car. Arghhhhh!
The guy driving was apologetic and I stayed calm because it could have happened to anyone but I just know know that this is going to cost me come renewal time. I took pictures of damage to both cars and phoned the insurance company immediately. Looks like I need a new rear bumper and rear light unit. The beetle hit side on though and I am pretty sure it will be written off.
I will upload the pics once I get them off my phone.
I wouldn't be this calm if it was my boxster that was hit (it was the wife's saab).

Bit confused about who's car it is, but if it's your insurance policy then you will likely have a 10% increase come renewal time. It's what I ended up with for a none fault claim in the past.
I believe someone on here managed to claim for that as part of the settlement though because they argued that the point of insurance is not to leave you worse off so he wanted the difference back to cover the increased premiums for the next few years.

Repeat after me: IT IS JUST A CAR. (YES. EVEN THE BOXSTER)During my lunch I saw out my window a vw beetle sliding on the ice and go into the back of my car. Arghhhhh!

It is why we pay for insurance.
The guy didn't mean it - and it is just one of those things.

surely it shouldnt cost you anything if he hit yours?? so renewal shouldnt be an issue
Unfortunately he will be stung regardless of where the claim lies. Through no fault of your own the renewal will go up because he will now be considered a higher risk. Its a terrible situation to accept.mini1380cc said:

Its a terrible situation to accept. Many people have been on here and have stated little or no change to policy cost, I am pretty sure it even dropped for one person. (Probably more to do with market conditions I suppose)
It is a real pisser OP though!
TL;DR non fault claim didn't raise my premium.
A neighbour a couple of doors along whacked my car while it was parked up my drive (maybe car length and half from the pavement, we were never sure how she managed it).
They refused liability to the insurers so I had to pay excess to have it repaired.
My insurance had to be renewed at this point and i had to declare an at fault claim.
After about a month I got word the two insurers had reviewed and it would be non Fault for me and I was refunded the excess, refunded the difference in the new insurance for the fault accident and sent a new no claims.
Renewal after refund was within £6 of last year's.

You can indeed claim for the increase in premium. There is case law to support this - speak to your insurer appointed solicitors.
Care to qualify on said case law? (I know bugger all about this)You may just have given some selective posters on here a collective coronary
