What would the perfect new PH car be like?
Discussion
Just a bit of Easter flippancy:
Having read many a thread in which a newly announced performance car is rubbished for being either too heavy, too expensive or - even worse - front wheel drive, I wondered if we could decide what the perfect new car for PH would be like. I'm thinking:
Naturally aspirated, and at least 6 cylinder, but with more torque than can generally be derived from an NA engine of that size
Rear wheel drive
No more than 1200kg
About £15000 Max
Any more criteria?
What would this be? A 3-Series brought forward through time from about 1990 is about the nearest I can think.

For me something like this Mazda Kabura.
Small, light, rwd, 2+2, practical(ish) and stunning.

I guess the gt86 is as close as you can get.

6 pot or more; oh no that might be a bit heavy.
Naturally aspirated; oh hang on, it needs more torque.
Stripped out; oh but I like my 15 way electric seats and thought powered sat nav.
Small wheels; oh but big ones look nice.
British made; actually they break down too much.
Two seater; oh but many have kids.
So in summary, who knows?

Impossible question because some people's preferences are directly contradictory to others'. For me it'd be something like a cross between an Elise and a Boxster:
two seats
open top with a simple, manual, fabric roof
longitudinal, mid-mounted, naturally aspirated flat six
RWD
five or six speed manual gearbox with a "mild" LSD
unassisted steering and brakes
cable throttle
As light as possible, but certainly less than a tonne
Around 200-250bhp/tonne
Reasonably soft springing with properly matched damping
Narrow, highish profile tyres (something like 195/55/R16)
Cost... around 35-40k I suppose? That might be optimistic, though. Even at £60k I'd consider remortgaging the house for one.
