Both the AA and RAC always overcharge existing customers when it comes to renewal.
It's cheaper to join as a new member as they make it more enticing to get new members (than keep existing customers - probably because a lazy high percentage just resign year after year).
I had this argument with them last year and they eventually gave me the new customer deal. It's cheaper to join as a new member as they make it more enticing to get new members (than keep existing customers - probably because a lazy high percentage just resign year after year).
Renewal has just arrived at £140 again though so guess I'll just cancel and sign up elsewhere this time... cashback websites are a great shout!

How come? They aren't doing anything without seeking his consent first. If he doesn't want it he can just say no and they won't force him. Doesn't sound much like rape to me.
I presume he's now changed his mind about what happened and is realising he's being bent over and given false promises. Sir Bagalot said:
The cashback sites are your friend here.
I've just paid £165 for AA cover, recovery and At home. Two people.
£69 cashback.
Free MOT voucher.
Even if you pay £30 for your MOT then that's 165 - 69 - 30 = £66
I too wonder why they just don't cut all the bullst out and sell directly for £66
Hi Sir Bagalot - what site was that deal on please? I am about to reject my AA renewal because of their usual annoying ripoff tactics towards existing members, and your deal sounds exactly what I would like to pay instead!I've just paid £165 for AA cover, recovery and At home. Two people.

Just to update this, sorted with RAC at £47.
But as a new customer to RAC buying online roadside and recovery for me on any car it was coming out at £99, but as a renewal it was £64 and after talking to them about switching I got this down to £47 which I think is great value.
The odd thing is being quoted £64 for the renewal which is cheaper than a new customer, normally year 2 is more than you can buy as a new recruit.
