PHTV Clip - 911 Turbo S v GT-R v Hellcat
Possible break the internet drag race of online heroes in flat-out standing start shoot-out
Video: Porsche 911 Turbo S Vs Nissan GT-R Vs Hellcat Dodge Challenger Drag Race
You know the 'no replacement for displacement' argument old-school muscle cars like the Hellcat represent? Here we put it to the test against two very much more high-tech heroes to see whether new-school tech like turbos and four-wheel drive can really can see off the shock and awe of 707hp of supercharged 6.2-litre V8. From Japan we have theNissan GT-R. And from Germany the Porsche 911 Turbo S. And quite a fight...

No doubt the GTR is a great car apart from its chocolate gearbox but the 911, what a machine. I'm sure there is a video where a journalist does something like 50 launches back to back in the Turbo S and it doesn't skip a beat.
Yes you're correct, and that's what you pay for, imo...Edited by s2000db on Friday 9th October 15:48

It was nutter Bill Caswell doing it on behalf of Road & Track. 911 Turbo S. 50 consecutive launch control starts. No issues. It consistently hit 60 within a very tight margin of each run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5DRCTW-Q7oPorsche rates the PDK's clutches for either 2000 or 3000 launch control starts. I believe Nissan doesn't really ever want you doing more than 20 or 30 in a GT-R. 2 orders of magnitude difference. One of many reasons why the Porsche costs so much more money.

I'm not sure why anyone would ever want to do 50 launch control starts back-to-back... even a racing car wouldn't get that sort of abuse. Actually I'm not sure why anyone would want launch control in a road car at all.
Don't be ridiculous. How else can one possibly pull away quickly??? Pffftkambites said:

Don't be ridiculous. What would their owners bore people to death about in pubs/bars otherwise?Edited by C70R on Friday 9th October 16:16

I think a more realistic and relevant performance comparison here would be to do a rolling start from say 30 or 40mph then see how they compare. Against 4wd and launch control the Hellcat stands no chance off the line. Pretty pointless video for me.

Room for improvement.
At least give us the trap times and terminal speeds and maybe some 0 to terminal speed in 10mph increments.
Motor Trend seem to do it rather better.
They're americans. They drag race even before they can walk At least give us the trap times and terminal speeds and maybe some 0 to terminal speed in 10mph increments.

Uhm, I think it was pretty obvious before it even began that the Porsche was going to stomp the other two no sweat. And, atleast IMO, it was just as obvious the order to which they would finish as well as the Hellcat spinning its tires.
To echo another poster's comment, I must agree that this video and its contents was rather pointless.
