Performance parts paid on drip
Discussion
There is/was a YouTuber who leased a BMW M4 and had quite significant mods done to it... As this was the subject of his somewhat-popular YouTube channel, someone at BMW FS twigged and he ended up having to buy the car off them at full retail value (which is obviously more than he'd have paid if he'd bought it in the first place as there was no discount applied).
ETA Sorry... not a lease, but financed. Anyway, here he is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv4yiczkpO0

That made me laugh, as did his shock at the finance company wanting to void his deal - the guy blogs about cars, how could he not know that was a possibility?
But anyway this is nothing new, people have been modding financed cars for year and "buy-now-pay" on mods as well.
I've certainly modified financed cars before but only the essentials until paid off.
However it'd take a special kind of retard to pay £60k on a new BMW then start messing about with it...obviously its a fashion accessory as anyone that "modifies" would know you could go faster for less if you don't mind altering things..therefore no point paying top money for a new car.
Are any mainstream manufacturers offering 'drip' payments for their own approved parts (eg. BMW M Performance)?
If not, it seems like they're missing out.

Yes, in the above video LLF took a real bashing for that video, in particular on a BMW M forum where the majority of posters sided with BMW FS, included some tongue and cheek remarks about his branding.... LLF = Living Life on Finance.

Yep, leasing is for poor wkers. I pity the fools.
You called it Sidey, reminds me of this: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Look at the peasants nickel & diming on their rental contracts.
Doesn’t fit well with the OPs prejudices but it’s not just people with cars on finance etc that these deals work for. My friend owns his car outright, fancied having it remapped and the company were offering interest free monthlies so he has barely noticed the cost of it rather than it wiping out all his spare income for a month or 2
Just about every reasonable sized tuning company I've used has offered finance on parts and labour. Seems common practice now.
I guess it's not much different to customers going in or online and loading up a credit card which is probably what most.of their customers were doing previously.

What is the difference between someone getting a 12 month repayment plan for a £2,000 TV or a some tuning items for their car? Let people spend money as they wish, so long as they can manage the repayments then there is no real harm done.
I am speaking about cars people own though, if it's a lease then yeah it's pretty mental modifying someone elses car.

It's quite clear that on PH the general consensus from the "super wealthy" (half of which are not as wealthy as they pretend) is that if you haven't bought everything OUTRIGHT in CASH you can't afford it and you are superior.I am speaking about cars people own though, if it's a lease then yeah it's pretty mental modifying someone elses car.
Even if they rent a 2 bedroom council house in Bradford and drive around in an Vauxhall Insignia, which is owned outright, but cost them £2000 from Co-Part.
Knobs the lot of them - let people do stuff how they want - it has zero impact on us.

This wasn’t a rant about cars on hpi , it was about the amount of people interested in the pay monthly performance parts . I just found it odd that if you couldn’t afford to buy it , you would deem it so important as to get into debt for. What happened to saving up and enjoying the purchase Even if they rent a 2 bedroom council house in Bradford and drive around in an Vauxhall Insignia, which is owned outright, but cost them £2000 from Co-Part.

I sell stuff like car speakers and amplifiers through a website. I use PayPal as my payment gateway, and as part of that they are kind enough to populate my site with a “Paypal credit” facility. There are a very good number of clients who choose to check out using PPC - I cant get the current run rate off my mobile phone but I seem to recall around 10% of sales being made in this way, last time I checked.
Didn't Halfords used to sell wheels and tyres on finance back in the Max Power days?
Wasn't there a spendaholics episode in around 2005 where a guy spent £55K modifying his Fiat Stilo?
As has been said, nothing new. I wonder how many young lads spent £20/£30K+ on their Citroen Saxos in the late 90s, only to eventually sell them for £2/£3k.

As I said previously what is the point in saving up for a few months to have the “satisfaction” of wiping out your savings when you could just pay a very manageable amount for a few months? And not have any money worries? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
