Daihatsu Copen. Would I be crazy to buy one...
Discussion
to turn into a sleeper. Ok it may sound gay but i think they are actually quite cool looking little cars. Sure i may look a t*t driving one at 6 foot 2 but i am tempted to buy one then soup up the engine somewhat to make it a lot quicker. Thinking along the lines of a supercharger or something.
Your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

If you want to tune, get a Suzuki Cappuccino, the engine and chassis are much better suited to it, plus they're nippyish (well, more than you'd expect from the engine they have at least) as standard. You'll pick one up for less money and have a lot more fun (rear wheel drive will see to that).
You still get the great fuel economy and the convertible hard-top like you get with the Copen too, plus you will look marginally less gay to people "in the know".
And yes, I do have a tainted view![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

Jaik, it was actually your car that made me suggest it.

For the same money or less you can have a proper TT Roadster with 225 horse as standard or +300bhp if you soup it up a bit and it has a much more tunable 1.8 turbo engine from VW. There are also other reasons ....it's more solid, more reliable, it'll hold it's value, it'll be more sought after, it's prettier, it's an Audi and not a Daihatsu ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

yes but a TT is a heavy old tank compared to a Cappuccino or Copen.
if you want a lightweight sportser, for the price of a copen....get a Westfield.
Nice and solid if you want a lightweight sportser, for the price of a copen....get a Westfield.

And I don't think the weight defferential will consume the 158bhp difference between the two cars
![rofl](/inc/images/rofl.gif)
And the copen gets to 60 in a leisurely 11.3 seconds
![sleep](/inc/images/sleep.gif)
Top speed:-
Copen - 106
TT - 155mph
Sorry, no contest - I think my wife likes Copens though

If engine swaps are on the table then how about a K6A-B engine from a Snowcat snowmobile in a Cappuccino. Pretty much a straight swap physically, mostly just a wiring job as the later Jap Capps came with the original K6A engine.
Pop that in and tweak the turbo and mapping a little and you end up with 120-215kph (~75-~135mph) in ~7 seconds. Rather fun I'd say!

From what I've read, the Copen engine isn't very tuneable. The Cappuccino engines (F6A and K6A) and their derivatives will tune to hell and back. I think that K6A-B puts out around 140hp stock and Jonap (the owner of the car in the video) has it at around 170hp.

I like the copen idea - it has the same engine as the Toyota Yaris so there is bound to be plenty of tuning options. Only problem is that they arent all that cheap, probably too expensive for a bit of a novelty.
As said id do something similar with a Smart roadster - they are a fair bit cheaper and weigh less than an elise so stick a VAG turbo lump in it and its going to have almost supercar performance. They are also RWD unlike the copen.
