Pic Of The Week: Happy 50th, Jaguar E-Type
Half a century of automotive beauty. Definitely worth a POTW...
Like we said earlier in the week, it merely takes the flimsiest of excuses fro us to post up a nice pic of a Jaguar E-Type, and the news that Coventry City FC is to host a display of 50 E-Types in April was all we needed.
But a mere news story photo, we felt, was not sufficient to do proper justice to a car whose lines are so revered it's been on permanent display in the New York Museum of Modern Art since the mid-1990s.
So here it is, the same picture again, but in full POTW technicolour glory (and without that darned PistonHeads banner spoiling the rear end). Enjoy...

Discussion
There is an old Denis Jenkinson book about running around Europe as Motor Sport's Grand Prix reporter in a series of 356 Porsches and then an FHC E-Type. One photo caption I remember was of the 356 below his hotel bedroom window along the lines of how you can really tell a well styled car if it looks good from above.
Not the most interesting post ever, but that's what the pic reminded me of...

Desktop wallpaper changed..... Astonishingly beautiful car
Likewise, achingly beautiful car. Always a pleasure to see one out on the road as well, they're just tremendous things. One of the few cars I'd happily sell my soul/ various body parts for. How much do kidneys go for thinking about it??I've always loved the look of the e-type and would love to one day own one.
My problem is that I've always found it hard to know exactly which model (and model variant) is desirable/worth buying and which is less desirable.
Because of this, to my extremely untrained eye (!!) it would appear that nice cars have a massive price range when I'm sure most of this is down to having the "one to have".
Anyway - one day a nice red one with black leather interior and chrome finishes will be mine!!!!
Cheers

I have had the pleasure of driving a V12 Coupe on the circuit...and i have to say what a car.... the handling is unbelieveable considering the age of the thing..the steering light and effortless... and it just ploughed on right through the rev range... The instructor / guy watching you incase you get to giddy was loving it too... Pushing me into the corners... 100, 50 break signs...the guy is still telling me to give it gas... "Dont worry, it'll go round" very well for him to say but this is somebodies pride and joy... think it was quite a well fettled one (And was deffo quicker than the manufacturers original performance figures... i was well above the 131mph top speed!!!). he was definately enjoying us blowing of his mate in a Lamborgini diablo aswell... 2 fingers out the window...lol.
Beautiful Car.... One i would love to own in years top come
Like that blue one in the pic, but i think i would have a coupe

Agreed - lovely cars...even the later, bulkier V12s! There's not a bad angle or line anywhere - they even look good from underneath!
Think I would prefer to drive a convertible but look at a coupe?
...and those seats look very similar to a TVR Tuscans?
If i was is the south of france cruising up the coast...the convertible.... But for everything else the coupe... better too look at IMHO aswellThink I would prefer to drive a convertible but look at a coupe?

This car is like Marylin Munroe - you know its of a time but at the same time think its timeless and still beautiful.
I am surprised the body shape has not been licensed by jaguar I am sure that there are numerous coach builders out there who would love to drop and engine from a 7 series in there

There's a stunning E-Type that's in the same body shop as my VX220 in Leicester (it was aprked up next to it when I visited earlier this week for an update on my car). Unfortunately didn't get any photos of it, but if the paintwork comeout on my VX anywhere near the quality done on the E-Type, I will be a very happy bloke

A year or so ago we popped over to a local village. As we walked up the main street a new Jaguar XK8 was parked up, looked a really nice car. On our way back an E-type series 1 coupe had parked up next to it and owners were chatting - suddenly the new car didn't look so special.

My Uncle opened a shop a long way from my home wher I used to live with my Gran. Because it was her son, she always used to make me walk to HIS shop to get the groceries. The only redeeming factor to this trudge was the opportunity to occasionally walk past a 4.2 series 2 roadster, in cream.
