Praise the lord, the normally aspirated engine lives on

Isn't the torque (317lbs ft) a little underwhelming

i fitted a fair few short shifters for B5 owners which improved the shift hugely, a thick walled yoko tyre improved the steering response a bit, there's the usual geo change to dial out any understeer. I always ended up cooking the brakes on mine.. and it was only MTM stage 1
bonkers engine 120-170 was jaw dropping
i do worry about the NA V8 valve coking, not sure if this affects the latest incarnation like it did the B7s engine
Yes, there's a fair few tricks you can do to sort out the front end feel, but, I still can't comprehend the speeds you'd need to do on a public road to get into those areas with a B5 (steering feel aside)bonkers engine 120-170 was jaw dropping

Engine is indeed completely bonkers!
I "believe" this later incarnation of V8 has more in common with a Lambo configured head which doesn't carbon up, but that could be boll*cks.
Easy way to sort the B7 V8 is to Supercharge it, but that's over £10k!
I think they're all great cars really, happy to own any...but once again the B7 is just a bit too common.
Brilliant they're bringing back the RS4 for another generation, especially with a V8 - however I'll reserve judgement on the looks (although I do like the rear quarter) until I've seen more varied pics.
I really don't think red adorned with chrome does it any favours in the aesthetics department either, right now I can't help thinking the nose looks a little bit like a squashed Audi A1.

I have a B7 RS4. It's interesting the different views of new/old RS4s. I know I'm biased, but I really can't think of a car on the market today that is as good as the RS4 and just hope that the new one is as good as the old one.
It looks undertstated, meaning I can park it in most places and I don't get any unwanted attention which I used to get in my old 911 / M3 - the downside is that people don't appreciate how quickly you can move/are moving when they pull out etc.
It would be a shame if the new model doesn't come with a manual - the one on the B7 is a peach and just as good as one you get on a Porsche 996/997 and makes the M3s stick feel agricultural in comparsion.
The way this car puts down the power in any condition is simply staggering. The M-differential seemed back-ward - too much power and not enough weight so you get the back end wagging. The RS4 just gets on with it with huge amounts of grip and no wagging and around corners too. You might not be able to get the back end to swing out as much as the M3/911, but in the real work you want grip rather than powerslides - I'm now a convert.
Lastly the power and poise is excellent - it is on par with the best cars out there.
Couple all this to the practically of the car (which you don't notice when your pushing on) it is a great package. It's not a supercar just a super car and I'm still smitten with mine.

Wow...supercharged V8 RS4, that's more like it!
Yes, 2 tried and tested sytems available now that I know of, APR & PES, bothe capable of circa 625ps with an exhaust and remap. They are quite something! Runs a highly tuned B5 very close. Expensive though, but I'm sure there'll be some used examples hitting the market with that initial price sting absorbed.jamesghwilson said:

Maybe where you live James, but quite rare up here (Scotland)!! B5 even rarer.Edited by Nors on Wednesday 15th February 14:31
Same old PH then. I have a feeling a number of people saw first the pictures, liked it, then read people's opinions in this thread, decided they didn't like it again...
Yes, there is a resounding similarity between the 4's rear end and that of the 6. I have no idea why that's a problem for some of you guys. Yes, the RS5 tanked. I've a feeling this won't. No, it's not as beautifully vulgar as the B7 and, yes, it actually kind of matters.
Audi RSs always, in my eyes, look fifty times more brutal in the flesh, so my jury's out until I see one on the roads...

Yes, and different colours will change how it looks also. Hope there's another wheel option though, I'm not really taken with that choice! (not that it'll make much difference to me - I can't afford a new one)Nors said:

No not that many, I meant in comparison to the B5 as per my previous comment on page three. They are still relatively rare.
Thanks for the supercharging info!

Do you know of any decent video clip links of either of those upgrades in the flesh? I guess Youtube...
The White one is standard. (in case you didn't guess )http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkql5k61KyA
Edit: That one has 565ps, since that clip he's changed it to a APR set up and now has 620+ ps.
