Stupidest car thing I've ever done: I bought a 320i for £50 in an unlit trading estate at night, not a problem, drove home just fine. Next morning on the way to a track day I put my tools in the boot, then walked round to the driver's door and got in. No steering wheel.
I'd not had a 4 door car for a decade, and I sort of forgot that not all the doors on that side were for the driver, so I'd got in to the back.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm about to adopt a ropey Lotus Excel. I don't need it and have nowhere to keep it, but by God I WANT it!
I think I know where you can park it, if it has shiny paint and a tax disc...

That is odd! I can understand the boggo one not having PAS, but the 16v? I didn't think VAG were that bad ![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
I have my doubts about the car as it is supposedly a comfort spec but comes up on insurance quotes as a classic.![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
As far as I can remember, it was privately advertised as a 16v Comfort when she bought it, but I haven't looked at it in any detail to make sure. It may well be a 1.2 for all I know.
It's her first car and hasn't had any problems in 2 years so there no point digging and dissapointing, as it were. To her it is just an appliance anyway.

I very much want to see your Excel, and will almost certainly want to buy it. Got to love anything with those wheel arches and pop-up lights.

I'm going to see it tonight, so I'll take a few pics. I think I know where you can park it, if it has shiny paint and a tax disc...
When I have the tax sorted and it's running I'll give you a shout!

What happened, I think, is that when this Xsara was built it was destined for Ireland. It was badged, and spec'd with VTS items, but fitted with the 1.8 engine (very common for Ireland). For some reason it ended up back in the UK, maybe the original owner wanted the more frugal engine, and Citroen returned it from where it was going. Either that, or they couldn't sell it, and returned it to the UK. This would explain the very very late registration on 1/1/01.
With a reg date of 1/1/01, it's probably an import rather than a UK registered car. Garages/DVLA aren't open on New Year's Day to register cars and it would explain the model not showing up properly on searches.Edited by S10GTA on Monday 18th June 00:13
If it's an Irish car and has had the tax paid on it there, you could always send it back.

Nice fitting reg plate too!

That's just made me laugh out loud. The dog is looking at me like I'm mad I'd not had a 4 door car for a decade, and I sort of forgot that not all the doors on that side were for the driver, so I'd got in to the back.
