I've been parking in 'normal' spaces in supermarket car parks for 25 years, in cars worth from £50 up to £115,000. Never had a dent.

Actually, I'm not even sure why I've responded to this as I usually avoid getting into conversations with half-brained selfish fkwits like you.
You've been lucky then. I haven't been so lucky. And even if there was the smallest chance ever of getting a dent, i will still continue to park well out the way, or p and c smile

I know not everyone on PH agrees with it, but I tend to take two spaces. However, I only do this if there are loads of spaces, and even then only at the far end of the car park...where there are a surfeit of them. On these criteria I really can't see why any sane person could take offence.

Most people are too lazy to walk, so half the car parks are empty. If it's a busy time (e.g. Saturdays) I just make sure I take my runaround car.

This is way more considerate than parking in Disabled spaces and using up P & C spaces when not much are left.

Mate of mine was at the O2 a few weeks back very early in the morning. He has a nice new XJR and he parked it in the massive car park and he reckons his was the only car in there and he parked it well out of the way from some coffee bar. Locked it up, went for a cuppa and twenty minutes later came out to his car and there was someone parked right next to him biggrin He said he stood there in disbelief as there were literally 1000 empty spaces but someone was right up close to his P&J.

Yep, there's no way I'd do either of those. I'm quite happy to spend an extra few seconds walking! I sometimes feel a bit self conscious in my car anyway, without giving people a reason to hate me!

As someobody else mentioned, whichever car I'm in, if possible I would also tend not to park near scuffy people carriers or cars with baby seats in the back....seen quite a few examples of mums with kids often needing to open car doors wide and being so preoccupied that they dont try to avoid doors banging onto other cars.

one of reasons i got rid of my expensive car all this st, was always trying to think where to park to minimise damage etc, now with a 12 year old car i dont give a monkeys, saves alot of time, worry and repair costs.
If i see someone has parked wrongly in a space, taken 2 spaces i will do my level best to squeeze as tight as possible to that car to try to teach em a lesson!!!

I work for Waitrose and there's a in a black ferrari with a PH Sticker on it that comes in every saturday and parks in a disabled spot, he is not disabled nor does he have a disabled parking permit, He also wears a leather ferrari jacket, even in the summer.

If you're reading this, you may be rich/own a nice car, but park in the proper fking spots you prick.
I really don't get why people do this, there is no need. I saw this guy getting out of his car having parked in a disabled bay at Beaconsfield Services the other day. And it was the last disabled bay available so if someone who actually was disabled turned up, they'd have nowhere to park.

I think it's just arrogance.

If I was disabled I don't mind people parking the slot if they don't mind if disabled people parking behind them blocking them in while they do a very long shop and a meal!
If you have a £150k then park far away and take up 2 slots if you that paranoid!

To be fair on the ferrari parking that could be parked at 5.30 in the morning in a empty carpark. and the owner could just be at a cash point out of shot etc. And your going to park behind and block him in deliberately ,nice.

Surely blocking a driver in is illegal but parking in a disabled bay isn't. Also just how many more disabled spaces are there now. westwood cross in thanet just repainted some of the lines in the carpark there are loads more than there used to be. Quite annoying having to drive a round looking for a space when there are loads of empty ones that incure a £60 charge if you park there.

Can they even fine you? But yes, there does always seem to be a few disabled bays going spare, like twice as many as being used.

If the car park is empty I don't mind but if I am with my friend Steve who broke his neck and now is in a wheelchair for life and can't find a parking space what you think my attitude would be like!

diablodave that statement makes you sound a bit of an arse. when you had your "expensive" car how did you park it. If you parked in two bays would you have been happy to find a person parking two inches from it. Also if when doing your parking manoeuvres against two bay parkers and you hit the car would you fes up or drive off. Think of the insurance claim, i didnt like the way someone parked so i stuck my nose in and whilst teaching them a lesson i parked as close to there car as possible and hit it.

A lot of problems could be avoided if they used spacing like this - I've only ever seen the local Costco do this.

Or perhaps not.

Supermarket car parks have cost me over £1200 in repairs of which people haven't owned up to. I'm with the OP now. I park so far away I might as well stick a bike in the boot to get to the store.

Don't say that, you'll make someone cry.
Just for the record, to zit up, I park far away now. I haven't used p and c for quite some time, and I don't think I've ever used disabled.

Loved having a Picasso courtesy car thanks to you paranoid wkers, I could park it wherever I liked and nobody ever parked next to it ever, probably assuming my 5 non existent kids would open their doors against whatever was parked there
Just because your paranoid doesn't mean your wrong wink

I will not park next to a people carrier in a supermarket car park. Ever. Its genuinly not worth the risk!
