Yep, the other half is insured on the VX and she has driven it a few times. Im not the best passenger as it is, and her driving leaves something to be desired (to thank someone, she will take her hand of the wheel, yet leave the other on the gear stick.... and her foresight leaves something to be desired to say the least) but the car is insured, so may aswell let her have a go, we usually take her car though due to the dog.

I am trying to help her tweek her driving style, but she doesnt take advise very well at all, its going to be a long battle of wills
Get her booked on a course with Colin Hoad at CAT Driver Training based at Millbrook.
Thats not a bad idea, will see what I may be able to do. The main problem is her not being able to take advise / constructive criticism, but she is starting to listen to me a bit now (she now gets 100 miles per tank more from her might 1.4 206 than she did before she met me) She is a bit of a speed deamon, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but with the other bits, doesn't make for good passenger journeys!

I see where you're going wrong there. You need to find yourself a smart woman who earns at least as much as you do, or at least that's what works for me. Or would you find that threatening?
I don't think that perfect woman exists. I think you can have either of hot, rich or intelligent - maybe two or three if you get lucky. No chance of finding a woman will all 3...
Smart, earns as much as I do, sexy. That's my Mrs. Who'd have thunk it?

This thread is absolutely incredible. Do you drive your wives'/girlfriends' cars, those of you who say you'd not let them drive yours? Or is this a one-way rule?

I'm glad I'm not related to any of you lot posting that you wouldn't let them drive your cars. I suppose you don't mind them driving you back from the pub so that you can have a drink!

Oh well, just to even up the balance - none of you would be allowed to drive my cars either. You might kerb the wheels or park across two spaces in a car park or something. tongue out

I'm trying to, but the insurance company doesn't seem to want her to (They may be smarter than I think!).

Current insurance company won't insure under 25's because it has a HUGE 2.2L engine :/ and the roof comes down. So I now have to find another and cancel that insurance, looks like it's going to be a 50% increase on the premium but most companies are quoting almost 4x wnat I'm currently paying!

All because I said I'd add her to the insurance on her birthday so that she can use it in the summer!

I used to let my ex-wife drive my 944 Turbo. (When we were still married, obviously. Not now.) First time I let her take it out on her own was on the test track at Gaydon. She hit 130-something (indicated) on the straight.

My current girlfriend’s too young to be added to the classic insurance, so it’s out of the question for another five years …

Yes, absolutely!

We don't have his & hers cars. All jointly chosen, owned, driven & paid for. Makes life easier and works well for me as no issue with spending money on cars and car related stuff.

I'm lucky that she loves cars (Elise's to Defenders), can drive & park (never kerbed an alloy) better than a lot of blokes and is careful to avoid scuffs/scratches etc.

Regularly drives on PH runs etc and just back from a 3000 mile European trip (Monaco GP, Maranello etc) in the Elise which a lot of OH's probably wouldn't consider a holiday. The only problem was debating who's turn it was to drive!

As she owns/has paid for the cars, it would seem a ted churlish not to let her drive them.

Only exception was when she was 18 and the insurance co wanted £8k to put her as a named driver on our 911.

I let my OH drive mine for the first and last time in June on her birthday weekend!

I pitched it as a present to her since i's always said no and she's pregnant and cant have a drink, really its because I know she would be careful and is better at parallel parking her 206 than I am in my civic!

but Shhhhhhhhh don't tell her I said that!
You gave her a go in a bloody Honda civic as a present? Wow that is generous I must say.
When it's anniversary time she can drive my Mondeo, if she's really good hehe

My OH always falls asleep when I am driving!! Driving advice from OH, family or friends is very difficult to deal with and ends in rows!!

Wifey is insured to drive my car (and vice versa) although she did hit a deer in it last year and cause a bit of damage.

She prefers to drive mine but our 2 year old treats it as a dumping ground so I don't let her use it that much.

She's not currently insured on the Chim
