Don't see where it fits into the range? It is a completely different car to the XK!
You've got to admit, it's pretty similar. You'd hardly call an XK a comfy 4 seater and I suspect many that are bought are used exclusively as 2 seater only. If this F-Type looks similar with similar engines and power and no manual gearbox, I think there's quite a large degree of overlap.Tbh what I always questioned is how the SL and SLK can exist next to eachother

Because one starts at 30k the other at 72k, so they operate in totally different sectors. Comparing those two is like comparing a C class saloon with an S class. ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
But you knew that, didn't you?

I was in the Inverness Jag dealer today, and the salesman seemed very knowledgeable about the F-type. Described the three engine specs is some detail. His dealership have taken three deposits already apparently - he has been told the first demonstrators would be in the dealers by spring 2013. On the topic of price, he said 51-82k depending on the engine. I would guess that once you add some options they'll be 60k cars not 50k cars... surely that price puts them more into 911 territory rather than cayman?
But, to be fair, this article states 340 - 360 - 500bhp.The Cayman R (330bhp) starts at 52k. I'm guessing that the base F-type will come with more kit than the Porker, so at 51k that sounds right on the money.
I've always thought the Cayman, as good a car as it is, has one big problem: the Boxster. As the F-type will appear as a convertible first, a 315bhp Boxster S starting at 45k will be a more direct rival imho.

Was at the ring a few weeks back and two F types were testing their. One had a big growl the other much more muted. Local concensus was a supercharged 4 cylinder. Spoke to the test driver while they were setting up for some filming at the end of the evenings touristfahren and he refused to comment on the gearbox type. ![](http://thumbsnap.com/sc/ssvxHgum.jpg)

Could it be that the 'four-cylinder' might have been some CX-16 turbine prototype power unit?![](http://thumbsnap.com/sc/ssvxHgum.jpg)
I like how this disguised one seems to have four exhaust pipes like the concept car, i was begining to fear the convertables would all have two central pipes, which look ok, but four big pipes look so much better.
Sure the boxster is a rival and its brilliant, but imo it has one huge problem, it sounds rubbish as do nearly all Porsches to me, i went through 4 or 5 aftermarket/custom exhausts on my last one and gave up in the end and sold it.
Wathing this video https://f-type.jaguar.com/gl/en/fearless.aspx the F-Type sounds rather nice even with two central exhausts which i presume is the smaller engines. One of reasons i love Astons so much is the sound, its a huge part of a car.

I didn't realise the price difference was that vast. I'm always baffled at the fact mercedes makes both. Both are luxury folding hard tops that seat two, both can be had loaded with options and with a big fBut you knew that, didn't you?

Agreed that the price differentiates them.

They are not similar at all if you also include the fact as bad been pointed out they operate in different market segments... SLK, Z4, Boxster/Cayman, TT. The SL... XK, 6 series. The SLK and the SL are completely different size cars. Mercedes would have you believe the SLK is a sports car, if's not quite that good. The SL is a GT.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

Those saying the F-Type and the XK are similar... I can never understand when people say 2 different cars look the same or they can see any difference. We're in the same realms as the SLK/SL thing. The F-type according to dimensions released by Jag (they are on the net) a lil bigger than a Boxster... So it fits in between that and a 911 and will be a proper sports car. The XK is a much bigger car and will be pushed further upmarket as can be seen already with the XKR-S at almost 100k.

Without going further off topic, it's hard to dismiss the fact that the 6 series is a proper 4-seater so not really competition for the SL. They got the E-coupe for that, or even the CL (but I wouldn't give the 6-er that much credit). Still to me it seems that Mercedes is just confusing everybody by having a two door in almost any size.SLK
CLK (sorry E-coupé)
SL
CL (aka S-coupé?)
But, in the end you're right of course, all have a different target audience.

If it's as good looking as the concept car then it will sell really well.
It tend to agree, that was lovely. My only concern is that the body under that camo looks nothing like the concept and for me doesn't look at all appealing. I can only hope that it isn't running with the final panels.

Wasn't that a Skandanavian company?
Did it ever find any customers?
I see it's now being built in Coventry. Did it ever find any customers?

Wow.
This is what the proto type promised:
I personally love the TVR Griffith style point front end with minimal rear overhang. Just superb if it looks as good as the early proto type.

I saw this last week and it looks really good in the metal. More nicely balanced than the pics suggest.
