Just checked the classifieds for used prices:
530d GT 09 plate, 70 k on clock - from £20k
As above but a standard 5 series - from £10k
That's a huge difference
^^ The most relevant point in this thread. No-one argues with the logic of buying a 530d, well the GT might be uglier but it makes a LOT more financial sense!530d GT 09 plate, 70 k on clock - from £20k

I also dont get why people are saying they can't see why people wouldn't take the touring over this? I guess the main reason would be that people dont want an estate (where did "touring" ever come from)yet want the extra space this can provide.
Indeed. Pointless car is pointless.Maybe I'm biased as I already own the saloon variant, but it looks like a slightly longer hatchback version of that.
It certainly doesn't look as woefully ungainly as the 5 GT.
But I can still think of no reason why someone would buy this over the Touring....except in extra legroom China
So, as many have said, pointless here.

I dont dislike it. Must have been a harder day at work than i thought! Along with the 5GT i really can't see what the point is. The likes of the X6 I get as people like the loftier driving position etc etc (but why not an X5?!). I'm sure it will sell a few though.
Out of interest has anyone seen a 5GT on the road? I've only ever seen one (although i've seen it a couple of times so it's probably local). Not too bad in black but it's MASSIVE.

I wonder how many more niches BMW are going to 'identify'.
Here's a summary of those that I've noticed recently in the press either in current or possible future production:
1. The Mini 'clubbed-to-death' range (I've still not got a clue what one club/country is compared to another and now there's a Paceman to further confuse things).
2. Horrific 'GT' hunchbacks which aren't grand tourers at all.
3. The 'even number' series just to confuse coupes and saloons with more numbers
4. FWD 1 series (why would you do that anyway?)
5. Coupe grand tourer 6 series with two or four doors
6. X series coupes (i.e. X6 but for smaller derivatives - think X2 and X4)
7. M Performance Automobiles. Apparently this is essentially a semi-skimmed M car (such as the M135i, X5 M50d etc)
I mean seriously what's the point of it all? Surely there will come a time where there are niches within niches within niches. Customers could become so confused that they just give up and buy something from the manufacturer who will give them a car that doesn't require a supercomputer to understand its raison d'etre.

Wow, that's really not very nice.
I'm a BMW fan, but I just don't see the need for either of the "GTs". They are ungainly compared to the saloon and Tourings
So, I'm going to post this, just to prove BMW can still design and build a gorgeous car. This is (97% accurate, according to insiders - yes, it's a Photoshop) the new M4.
