Isnt that just being a dick? rather than a petrolhead. why would you go out of your way to not do something that is second nature while driving anyway....wierd.
Crikey. Now I am beginning to get the whoosh parrot thing on here.

My car history has ruined me as there is not much left to try!
R33 skyline - straight 6 jap turbo
Mondeo v6 - repmobile
2x Accord type r - fun repmobile
Tvr chim 4.0 hc - British v8
Evo 6 - 4wd rally butter
Elise - lightweight racer
2 x Mr2 turbo tuned - rear engine jap beast
350z - big v6 gt
2 x mx5 1.8 rs - pH essential!
Alfa gtv v6 aero - Italian gt
Clio 172 cup - hardcore hot hatch

Only itch now is Porsche maybe but I want another Elise or Tvr and keep the brilliant little clio as my daily. All the others were daily drivers!

Have you even got a car?
Yes I do and I sit handsomely within the >200bhp per tonne but not >300bhp per tonne.

Have you even got a car?

As has been mentioned I don't think you need to own anything to be a petrol head. I'm fortunate to have owned some of the cars that people would say you need to own to be a petrol head I.e:
5 turbo
205 gti
944
M3
Golf gti's
E30s
Type r etc etc
I have also been fortunate enough to drive some real greats out of my price range, however as a child of the 80s with posters on the wall of Testarossa's and Countach's and 911 turbos and a dad who was in to cars and Motorsport I was a petrol head before I was at school!
I don't think you can buy your way in to petrolhead-ness,it's more of a genetic disorder!

Petrol heads come in many shapes and sizes.

You get petrol head chavs, geeks, wierdo's, hard men, lesbos, gays, crumblies, school kids, drug dealers, business men etc, they like to be a bit different in what they drive, when they drive its a pleasurable experience.
The cars they chose can vary from a Corsa to a Cobra.
I don't think they have to own any specific car as we are all different and every car has different attributes which make the owner tingle inside and make them feel special.

Nothing specific, but your car must meet some basic criteria. It must have a manual transmission. It must not have big wheels or low profile tyres. It must lose grip below the speed limit - losing control of your car is only acceptable if you're not speeding.

Also, it must NOT have any electronic toys or comforts. Well, beyond those which are acceptable so long as you don't live on a race circuit and/or live your life a quarter mile at a time.

Oh and you must NEVER use your indicators if there are no other vehicles around. That you've noticed.
Micra?

Personally I think its NOT that car that you drive, it's a state of mind.

Who is more of a petrol head?
1) 19 yr old youth who spends all day fiddling with his engine
2) 25 yr old bimbo who knows nothing about cars but loves her new Ferrari that daddy got for her.

Or the days when it's -2 outside and you stick a jacket and hat on, get the top down on the convertible and just go for a drive. Everyone looks at you like you're barking mad but you drive round gurning like an idiot laughing your head off.
This is what I did today! driving

About time

What colour are you going for ?
Unless there's some major incident that prevents me ordering (waiting to hear back from two local dealers but a distant one has already put a great deal on the table)

Grey with Coral red leather. Business on the outside, party on the inside. Or something like that.

There are definite gaps in my petrolhead ownership, I can see...

Never had:

-hot hatch

-Caterham/Lotus 7 ( cant fit comfortably)

-Morgan ( Still on my list to get an older +8)

-Radical or semi-track device at the extreme level

-MX5

All sorts of BMW Ms, Porsches and Yank stuff, Off roaders and the like though.

As posted earlier .... N O N E..

As a kid. You can't drive. But you know every Top Gear episode, you know every Top Trump car stat, you have a picture of some exotica on the wall, you doodle cars, you dream cars.

As a puss filled youth with your trousers lower than your arse crack; showing your underwear that was once white... you drive some pos death trap that you have chavved up with everything Amazon, Ebay and Halfords can throw at you.

As a race fanatic - you attend race events - Le Mans, BTCC etc etc

You drive a POS rep mobile or some boring German diesel rep-mobile - but dream it is made of more.

I didn't know you knew me so well lol

The trick is.... if fate and fortune afford you the opportunity to get a Veyron, P1, 458 etc etc - then get one.
Cars like this need to be seen to inspire the next generation.
You may be a balding middle aged fart before you can afford it - but you should be obligated to inspire generations to come.

I'd prefer to grow old with petrol in my veins. smile

Any TVR.

My stance though...

The straight six engine designed and built by TVR is the most powerful NA straight six engine ever put into a production car.

3.6/4.0/4.0s engines in cerbs, Tuscans, tamoras, T350s and Sags deliver around 320 to 370 bhp/ton (before mods Don!).

No traction control, just man fun!

I would say categories rather than specific cars. I've tried to have as many different types of car as possible.

Hot hatch (205 GTi)
Open RWD car (MX5 and E30 325i)
Coupe (Corrado VR6)
4WD turboed rally rep (Impreza WRX)
4x4 (Jeep Grand Cherokee)
Mercedes (always wanted to own one - C-Class Estate)

Still yet to own but would like to own:

something mid-engined
Porsche
Supercar
Something with a V8

I'm a firm believer that if you don't like a particular type of car though (like a convertible for instance), then you don't have to own one to be a petrolhead.
