I fail to see what the fact he was driving a 996 turbo has to do with it?

I see far more morons driving 'normal' cars than sports/supercars.

And the VW beetle origin seems to have worked rather well... what credentials do your cars have?
It was a joke. See his second post.

I don't think money has anything to do with it. I suspect most people just find it hilarious that anyone really believes they can outdrive a 911 turbo in a Transit Connect.
Plenty of Porches and similar around here (Cheshire) being driven poorly by oldish gentlemen. You wouldn't need a van to get by them a milk float would do the job. Hog the outside lane, never go above 20% below the legal limit, a right PITA.
That's not what I call out-driving and I don't think it was what our hero meant either.
Are you saying slower cars never get the better of faster cars? And if they do it's not because the faster car's been outdriven?

Someone on here reckons they could take a turbo on in a van?

I've not read all the thread but if that's the case that is hilarious !!! hehe
I could without a shadow of a doubt. Put my mum in the 911 and I'd massacre her on any road in a van

You don't seem laughing much despite it being hilarious that I reckon I could take on a turbo in a van confused

It only became a joke once he realised was a prat he looked.

No, I'm saying that Transit Connects do not 'get the better' of 911 turbos.

Very nice but I wouldn't want one. I'd get pcensoredd off being blown away by Transit Connects all the time, especially on roundabouts hehe

Goldblum, you do realise that if the other person isn't attempting to drive in a hasty manner, they have not been 'out-driven'.

Otherwise I must be out-driven by hundreds of cars every time I drive my 911. Sometimes, in daily driving, I am faster than other traffic, sometimes other traffic is faster than I am, or more often a mixture of both. Nobody out-drives anyone in this circumstance!

(other than the prat in his chavved up car who will be bragging to his friends about 'beating' or 'out-driving' the chap in the 911 turbo.

Changing the theme slightly, I've heard lots of drivers of smaller, less powerful vehicles (Smarts come to mind) complain that drivers of bigger, more powerful cars (diesels come to mind) seem obsessed with getting past them at any cost.

The other side of that is the driver who must get in front of a high performance car at all costs. Being overtaken isn't an issue but it is a tad puzzling why the overtaker then drops to a lower speed than the car just overtaken. Vans and hot hatches seem most likely to do this. I guess too many people just see road position as some sort of competition or compensation.

I decided not to bother posting on here again for the very reasons laid out in this thread. But I'll make this exception, I drive a transit van for work and I also own a Porsche which I've worked my butt off to buy. I have 30 years driving experience and don't profess to be the best driver in the world like so many people out there clearly are.
The whole "Porsche owners are all snobs" is a joke. I'm a builder and on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd be a -1 on the snob scale. In sure there are plenty of snobs who drive transit vans as well. But OP you have proved yourself to be a complete moron. Amen

But you forgot to say that your van is way faster and out handles your Porsche especislly on roundabouts and twisties. Having both you will know this to be factually correct...... wink

Do you turn up on site in your Porsche? smile I wouldn't.

Ok one more post! Your quite right my transit van flies round roundabouts far quicker than the 911 on two wheels with the sound of tools smashing against the sides, and other road users fleeing in my wake! Far more road presence from the tranny.
Oh and no I don't drive to site in the Porsche, I'm far too snobby for that

whatever I'm driving I'll go as quick as possible whilst keeping safe. In the GT2 that usually means not being overtaken much, whereas in the 207 diseasel that means not being overtaken much.

haha

Oi!

I've got a Transit Connect and a Porsche.
I once had a 996 turbo (X50.... no less) but not when I had the van.

And I'm a down at heel tug o the forelock decorator, not a snob wink
And I don't drive aggressively in either of them.
And, and.....

If you had a half able driver in a turbo (the type that would seek out and buy a turbo) and a far more able driver in the van, then the van driver wouldn't even see them!!!!!

hehe < because you were so polite I even put a laugh in there for you smile
