Try justifying why you think it is better than the day it left the factory new and with no possibility of any inbuilt stress in any component that it may have now.
Good logical point. :-)I did indeed mean better than most other models that will have aged since the day of production. I didn't articulate my views very well. Work, rushing, busy whilst typing etc.
I'd of course very much like a new one built today from entirely new components however that is not possible and beyond my means even if it was. Conclusion from my perspective, as valuable as it is not, in this situation.. is that I would be entirely happy with Rowan's McLaren. The rest is all speculation on my behalf.
Whilst we are talking, regardless of how useless the LM edition will be on the road, I'd just love to have one. I recall seeing it launch away from the lights at the GoodWood festival of speed and haven't fallen out of love with it since.
Cheers

Equally Chris Evans isn't where he is because of TV/radio.
Yes he is.He couldn't have saved up enough money to buy the Virgin Radio stake by working in Tesco now could he.
The shares then multiplied in value, and he sold for a vast profit. He could have got out of the shares he ended up with for circa £150m IINM, but he held on. Too long as it turns out.
Anyhow - seems Rowan has gone the same way as Harry Metcalfe with his Zonda in that the value of the car has become too high to ignore.
He doesn't drive it that often, he's had a good run with it, it's worth millions - sell and buy a few other things.

I am still amazed at how much money Atkinson has made from Blackadder and Mr Bean...
I suspect as well there may be some shrewd investment going on, to be fair the Mr Bean thing was huge, Blackadder is a national treasure but I cant imagine it paid as well as Mr Bean, wonder if he gets a few quid every time its shown on UK Gold ? i.e. every day ?Muzzer79 said:

I remember reading his book and I am sure the 10 million shares he retained were worth £37 million (although I think at one point he was offered over £50m) - he ended up selling them for £250,000. That's got to of hurt!
I'm pretty confident he has more than made that back by now with all his cars plus well paid job plus countless businesses divis and capital growth. Good for him.

I don't believe I'd rather have his patch up of a car than an uncrashed version.
First of all it won't be better than new, they've been hampered by his restriction to leave the original tub in place (whatever condition that was in) and door etc and reglue CF to it, and whatever other bits he wanted to keep original. Yes they'll probably have done the best job of it, but not anywhere near how it came out of a showroom. Better than an unstressed F1 sitting in a garage for 20 years - please!
We also assume all the staff that worked on it are as good as the staff when it was originally made, who knows?
Secondly, so many of the original parts will have been replaced. Is that what everyone really wants? I remember having a look at Chris Evans Ex-Coburn car when he brought it to Autoitalia. Everyone was oohing and aaaing, so many brand new parts, so shiny. I thought it was an awful over restoration. No patina, no history.
So let's take this a step further. If McLaren decided tomorrow to produce a one off brand new F1 using brand new or original-new parts would that be worth £8+ Or would the market rather have a pristine original from the 90s? I'd rather have the 90s model anyday

I used to look after the dehumidifiers for his cars before he relocated for some time up to Peterborough way. Needless to say it was the one customer I looked forward to seeing the most each year! The F1 was awesome to see in real life and the other cars weren't to shabby. Definitely no museum pieces there! It also inspired me to do what I do now.
I'll also remember the best cup of tea I've ever had made by his butler Richard!

Where did you hear he had requested the original tub must stay?First of all it won't be better than new, they've been hampered by his restriction to leave the original tub in place (whatever condition that was in) and door etc and reglue CF to it, and whatever other bits he wanted to keep original.
