There are loads with numbers, maybe we should stick to names, and please stop posting different cars from the same manufacturer that have the same name!

Morris 8, Renault 8.

Austin, Lotus, Renault 7.

Austin, Rover, Renault, Standard, Morris 12

Re Chrysler/Talbot, I worked with someone who bought a Chrysler Horizon immediately before the sale/take over. It went in for it's free 500m service as a Chrysler and came back out badged as a Talbot (don't know what happened on the log book!)

Re Ford/Dutton Sierra - didn't Ford sue Dutton even though Dutton used the name first?

I read recently that Monteverdi used it first, and subsequently licensed it to Ford, taking a royalty on each Ford Sierra sold.

To get back to numbers, have we had the Tatra and Bristol 603s? Most earlier Bristols share their name with later Peugeots - 404, 405, 406 at least, are there more?

Mitsubishi Mirage/Mitsubishi Mirage.

One is a 90s coupe, the other is a 10s shopping hatchback.
Colt Mirage was also a 1980s shopping hatchback, my Mum had one - later rebadged Mitsubishi Colt when the manufacturer name reverted back to Mitsibishi from Colt.
I don't recall them ever being called Colt here in NZ (or the Japanese imports), was it just a UK branding thing?

There were Mitsubishi Mirage shopping hatchbacks right through the 80s and 90s. Some markets used the Mirage name as well for a car also known as a Lancer Coupe.

Colt used to be the brand name, in the same way as Nissan used to be Datsun.

How long ago? I can remember Mitsubishis as far back as early 80s models - my uncle still has a 1983 Mitsubishi Mirage.

ETA: Ahh, this might clarify it:

Today, it most commonly refers to the Mitsubishi Colt subcompact in the company's line-up, but is also the name of MMC's import/distribution company in the United Kingdom, the Colt Car Company, established in 1974. For the first decade of its existence, before Far Eastern auto manufacturers had established their reputations, its cars carried the "Colt" badge in Britain instead of "Mitsubishi".

I thought the topic title was cars with the same name? A number/class designation is not a name as far as i can tell. A lot of the suggestions are just the same car from different regions/eras (Plymouth/Dodge/Mitsubishi Colt), or reuses of the name by the company that owns the previous example (Mercury/Ford Cougar). Do they really count?

I can only think of one off the top of my head.

Chrysler Phaeton (Concept) and VW Phaeton.

Yes, I think it was a UK only thing. It only lasted a handful of years, but we had Colt Mirage, Colt Lancer, Colt Galant, Colt Starion etc. They kept the three-diamond emblem though. About the same time they imported Lonsdale badged Galants from Australia. There was a big Oz-based advertising campaign, upside down cars, lame kanagaroo jokes and all that rubbish, I think I'm right in saying it's the only time an Australian car brand has been promoted here. It tanked.

Good grief man, that's not an RS200. This is an RS200.

Easy mistake to make, it's a good replica and had a Sierra Cosworth engine in it if I remember correctly.

If there's one car I'd like to own a replica of, it's the RS200. Although I'd like an original one every bit as much, and more.
