Here's the deposit receipt from the same scenario last year if that helps in the meantime.
So to clarify, is your definition of "not trying to sell" you the car you not getting offered it at a price you want?

Thats quite different from you walking in to a showroom and being ignored by someone "not trying to sell" you a car.

Ps. It's disinterested, not uninterested.
No it's not.
Arguably disinterested is worse, although acceptable.

Car buying is supposed to be a pleasurable experience, but most of you seem to really resent the whole experience.

Psychologically it seems to point that you need to feel superior to the salesman for whatever reason - to the point that the smallest thing will make you you buy a car elsewhere to what you actually wanted to spite the salesman who probably doesn't even know !!!

That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard !!!

I have never had issues and when I see the postings on here, I can join the dots as to why some people get short shrift from others.

From now on when I see that Tesco "Haggle" advert I'm going to be thinking of you guys !!!!
I don't think that's entirely true. I've recently bought a necklace for my fiancée and the salesman couldn't have been more helpful right from the start. He was the owner of the shop and the experience was surprisingly pleasant despite spending a lot of money on something she'd probably only wear a few times a year. I will definitely go back again and that visit was a result of previous visits where he was equally as helpful. Costs him nothing but brings in sales.

Same with a motorbike from a BMW dealer (SBW Motorrad) - he bent over backwards to accommodate me and the bike, if I had bought it was only £12k. I didn't buy it but bought a used model from elsewhere but because he was so helpful and accommodating I'll be buying accessories and luggage from him and quite possibly another bike - he'd be my first stop.

I've also experienced BMW car dealers with poor attitude- so what's different about a £30k plus car that means you get treated in an offhand way and a necklace and a motorbike ?

I don't understand why some car dealers, usually franchised dealers selling new cars, make it so difficult to buy, but other retailers, selling cheaper things, are usually a lot more knowledgeable and helpful ?

Aside from holding keys to a £70k+ 6-series that they supplied, I was in a Boss suit, Oliver Sweeney Shoes, wearing a Rolex and carrying a Mulberry Briefcase. If that doesn't make me prime (cliched) BMW territory I don't what else does laugh
I think you may have transposed a couple of letters within your forum name wink

I think it makes you look skint because you appear to have spent all your money on a suit, shoes and a briefcase.

I have a similar tale of being underestimated by a car dealer. 12 years ago, 17 year old me and 3 mates (on our college lunch break) went to visit a "Prestige" car dealer locally to view a 350Z I knew he had in stock.
I ended up buying a Cerbera from Henley Heritage instead hehe
17 at college and you bought a Cerbera....
Well no, I had turned 18 by the time I bought the Cerbera.....I chopped it for the T350c before I was 19 then smile

Lets not derail though...

Me too, went to look at an M3, had no intention of buying it, I simply wanted to lick it and the salesman paid me no attention despite having a copy of BMW enthusiast under my arm.., pfft, needless to say I didn't let him read it.

I had a Salesman tell me jokingly that the "PH Types" were hard work and he'd rather go after "the low hanging fruit"

Or put another way. Who wants the car buying experience to be like buying a sofa?

Personally I think if you walk into a showroom and haven't got the gumption to walk up to a salesman and engage in a conversation you are a bit of a plonker.

Presumably if no one offers to sell you a pension, buy a house or apply for a job you just sit at home staring in to space. I'm not exactly pro car salesman but some people seem to expect spending some money to entitle them to be as obnoxious as possible.

Personally I think there is something effortlessly cool about being loaded and not acting like an entitled ar$e
So being baffled at lack of engagement is now seen as being obnoxious?

What % of car sales go to people being tempted and offered a deal that was too good to miss when they were totally set on changing their car that day?

A quick tot up over my car buying history, and over three-quarters of my cars bought have been my being tempted by a great deal to persuade me to swap early. If thats indicative of most people, the CBA salesman, who will only wake up with the phrase "I'd like to buy a car", will miss out on 75% of potential sales.

If my sales guys only responded to inbound enquiries, they'd go hungry.

If you took in context it was merely answering a question, and highlighting the cliche to boot. But don't let that stop a snotty PH response. rolleyes

I am sure it won't!

(I am however completely sympathetic to your first post. You were absolutely right to be annoyed, no matter what you were wearing!)
