You mean they need to fit an appalling gearbox and spend thousands on a carbon fibre roof which saves about 5kg? hehe
Lets not mention the cardboard boot either...

But seriously, this kind of car does nothing for me. Its meant to be a practical car, but then they remove things that are practical. That makes it somewhat less practical, and in that sense, it misses its original mark.

Fine, if people are not after a practical car. But then, if that was the case, would you not look at alternatives that were slanted a little more in that direction, ie a dedicated 2 seater.

I personally find cars like this stuck in no mans land. They won't make or break the company, and sure it may be to some extent a halo car if someone can figure out how to apply the results to cooking models in order to shift more product, but thats not exactly easy from the comments I'm seeing here.

VW can never win anything on PH laugh

Someone on another site also pointed out that the clock was started at the pit exit but stopped at the line, so not actually a full lap.
That someone might want to learn why they all do that then so they don't make them selves look daft, all comparable times are done the same way.

Care to explain why they don't just finish the lap? Or is it to pretend they went faster than they actually did?

But what record did it achieve? This car is not as will be sold, so not a standard road car record. Record for fastest 2 seater hatchback that will not arrive from the factory in this state perhaps?

And the rest of the points are valid. Its no longer suitable as an everyday car and would get spanked by a proper 2 seater. So what is the point in this car other than VAG doing anything to try and get a fwd lap record back even though it still doesn't count as a production car.

Because otherwise it's a 13mile cooldown lap, cross line, slow & dive into old pits, done. VW are not alone you know, its been the standard way it's done for a long time.

Around the track and likely in terms of fun.

Anything under or around 8mins on the Nurburgring is very fast indeed but this is not a production vehicle, its a modified track car.

It got spanked by a 4 door. Giulia QV to be precise. Rumour has it the 280bhp Giulia Q4 has been round in 8'00" dead as well.

It's the Industry Pool lap. They have their pits on that T13 straight, and the timing lines are just before the first turn and just after the final turn, so they can set a lap time in one single lap without needing to do an out-lap and/or in-lap. Also, during Industry Pool test days there is usually a low speed limit in effect on that short straight past the pits, so it's pointless including it in the timed lap.

Is it fair to sell a record car without the exact equipment used to achieve it? Discuss...

No. As said before by others, testing a car that hasn't even been produced yet in a form that will not be sold is just b*llsh*t

Build and sell the car and then test it in the exact same form available (even if only available as options).

Otherwise it's just a marketing exercise to gauge or raise interest before launching something similar or maybe they had no confidence in their product to risk producing and selling it first and then find out it was too slow.

This is all true, but what people are saying is (helped by the mysterious way the camera doesn't actually show the track in front of the car) it actually seems that the timer starts midway through the first corner and finishes slightly before the end of the last.

Al very much "who cares?" until you think that they beat the record by such a tiny margin and VW's reputation is muck after the emissions scandal.
