"There's a bloke/lass down the road with...."
Discussion
There was a chap round the corner who had a V8 vantage, changed it to a TVR Chim but he's now moved. Most interesting thing is the next door neighbour's in-law who visits and drives a Mitsy Evo IV in nice condition. Another neighbour who has recently moved away also had a white Mitsy Evo IV but mainly kept it the garage and used it infrequently (a bit like my ND MX5 )

Bloke across the road has a concourse DB4 Vantage. He lives behind a high hedge 100 yards away and yet when he starts it in his garage our house shakes. The first time I heard it I went outside to look for the Lancaster bomber flying overhead.
Well clearly then he must have low self esteem. He doesn't have a "No Fear" T-shirt, by any chance, does he...?

You clearly have super ears to be annoyed so much.
Personally, I love the sound of a supercar opening the taps.
Granted, someone with a huge exhaust on a Nova isnt the most pleasant but I normally just laugh rather than get annoyed like you do.
Can I ride my motocross bike in your garden every day? . the answer is no by the way , by law. However if i want to show off up and down your road, all I need is to get it registered on a V55/5 daytime MOT and I can become one of the boys. But I personally think loud noise should be for the tracks with a purpose other than attention seeking or impressing.Personally, I love the sound of a supercar opening the taps.

So , no. Buying an expensive powerful refined car then spending 1-2 grand making it illegally louder than standard and having to ask favours of the MOT man (7.1 of the manual) isn't my idea of being a motor enthusiast. I would rather spend the 1-2 grand finding some inspiring roads or just spend it on a proper race track, but very few people do, because nobody can give them approval they crave.

I have to say I don't admire the people with low self-esteem thinking that everyone enjoys their noise.
Your neighbour obviously wants a section 59 notice and for his MOT garage to get in trouble with DVSA
FWIW, where the 30 limit becomes NSL, the houses in the village also stop. Given that I don't hear him for more than 10-15 seconds AT MOST I would say he's considerably less of a nuisance than one of the households around here who take to playing extremely loud drum and bass at 11pm.Your neighbour obviously wants a section 59 notice and for his MOT garage to get in trouble with DVSA
Also, my current vehicle is totally street-legal and EU approved but way too noisy to get on most track days. Go figure. :-S

the reason type approval specifies quieter and quieter cars is because of the increase in noise complaints. People with low-self esteem are marketed to regards to making noise. Like the 'no fear' clothes brand.
Idiots are shooting themselves in the foot. The UK is quite lucky as it has a good classic car scene and *was* powerful enough to veto EU regulations. Other countries are doing away with classic cars (Belgium only certain ays of the week and not at night) and the modification industry is being targeted.
Britain is/was a rogue EU country for noise and air pollution, it will all end in tears.
Whilst I appreciate that Audi is quite rightly despised on PH, the current shape RS3 could be spec'd with a sports exhaust and is completely bonkers loud as a result. No idea how they got it past the noise regs. Next one allegedly will be quieter Idiots are shooting themselves in the foot. If people didn't worship Narcissists and the loud car culture on the roads, then the trackdays would never need limits, they could be used for people who actually want to push their cars. Trackdays are quite lame for the money anyway so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Also, my current vehicle is totally street-legal and EU approved but way too noisy to get on most track days. I can't work out if you're trolling or are just genuinely a complete nause. Jex said:

I'd say so, with a 6 litre V8 and fuel in my veins, but there's a good mix of mortar & John Lewis in them too. I find this car to be my compromise between nice house and nice car. A fully spec'd W205 C63 S/Edition 1 Coupe is a lot of money and would eat into the other things I like to do with my life. I could justify a second hand Aston or R8 V10, but perhaps they're GT's and not super cars.I'm just saying, I can't imagine owning a super car and living in a terraced house with no safe place to store it. First build your castle, then buy your harras of horses, but that's just me.

Maybe he's not from the UK. Look at people who post car pics from mainland Europe, they have much nicer houses by default. Britain has the ugliest, cheapest built, smallest houses in Europe. Even big self builds look tacky, or those horrible faux Georgian styles footballers live in.
A mix of USA & South Africa (where you'd not want a nice car without a fortress to lock it in) but UK at the moment. Generally it's a nice spacious pad with land before a nice car, with the exception of inner city apartments anyway; there's a few gems in underground parking lots.Terminator X said:

Theres a picturesque place in Germany who's residents utterly despise the new fashion of opening valves, popping and banging noise coming from high-end German cars and the Japanese sports bikes. Residents have been putting diesel down on the road and a biker was killed. (search for it in German) TX.
Typically cruel it was a genuine motorcyclist with a quiet factory pipe. They now want bikes banned on Sundays and are making ground on getting it to happen.
These people pick on race tracks because councils have the power to make it happen but the Police dont have power to stop the noisy tts on the roads. I'm grumpy because I lost motocross tracks and Kart tracks who were victimised only once per month because of the general increase in noise among car/bike enthusiasts in society every day.
Still think loud pipes are good for the hobby? What about Londoners seeking a ban on hard acceleration due to the problems with Arabs every summer?
