No, it'll be a rebadged, cut-price French stbox.
The Rover/Tata really wasn't that bad. I mean it was probably the worst car in its class, but it was still capable of getting people from A to B. The problem was they tried to charge £6500 pounds for the thing; even the reduced £5500 for the facelift was a good £1500 more than it was worth.
The real problem for that car was that the Rover brand client base were all dead. We had long passed the point that any commercial number of living people wanted a new car with a Viking longboat on the back of it. The Rover/Tata really wasn't that bad. I own a 2017 Duster Access. Was tired of smoking around in old knackers and wanted something I didn't need to think about. It'll start in the morning and get me to where I need to be without any hassle. Sandero would've done the job but the extra space is useful.
Yes it's very basic but apart from a radio (which I haven't even bothered with) I don't really need anything else for going to the shops in....
Quiet enough, competent enough, economical enough.
Not going to set the land speed record and if you try it'll probably put you in a ditch because the handling is a bit suspect at higher speeds.
Utterly forgettable but most cars that are bought as "a car" are.
I know I could've bought X, Y, Z for the same price. Not interested.
Mentions of the RWD Twingo above - I had one as a loan car because the Duster was in for a couple of teething issues (minor stuff) and it was fking god awful. Interior was falling apart after 20k miles of hard use too.

Car buyer Dacia Sandero Stepway hatchback
http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/dacia/sandero/st...
''PROS
Fuel-efficient engines
Excellent visibility
Low prices
CONS
Poor to drive
No real off-road ability
No super-cheap entry-level model''
it is like a collective delusion i guess the advertising is working. Interesting the owner reviews are good, but it generally accepted that when consumers pay less for goods they except less thus more likely to leave a favorable review and overlook the downsides.

Im not following you around trying to put you right, but the renault marketing bods have actually told us that customer expectation is higher with Dacia customers than the Renault/Nissan brands. Mostly because lots of people buying Dacia have never bought a new car before therefore have no reference for their expectations.Toaster Pilot said:

Mostly because lots of people buying Dacia have never bought a new car before therefore have no reference for their expectations. My business has been asked to rectify paintwork on a few new Dacia's recently (scratched by Valeters etc) and the customers who I have met have been utterly beside themselves that their brand new £6500 car has a tiny mark on it, and the reason they give for being so upset is that they have "Never ever had a new car in their lives before and wanted to treat themselves", and are consequently setting the bar very highly for the whole purchasing and ownership experience.
From the ones I have met, these are mostly people in their 50's onwards who see a Dacia as the first opportunity that they have ever had to 'spoil themselves' with a new car.

Expectations are high, I would say that is incorrect they are expected value for the money which is what they get. Expectations would be easier to manage considering the marketing is clear about the expectations of the product, a value brand. People who shop at Lidl and Aldi don't expect M and S quality food. You are a car salesmen your job is to add value to the product else they would sell themselves so it is fair for you disagree with me. it is a clear case of price elasticity of demand, the consumer is wanting to get maximum value for there money, which is why hard plastics and less options are offered as this reinforced the view, therefore the consumer is satisfied with the purchase.

The problem with the Cityrover was the timing and the brand IMO. Other manufacturers make small cheap basic cars (ala Suzuki Alto) and do well.
Because if you buy a Suzuki you can be pretty sure it's going to be ultra reliable. As said, it's a branding issue. If they'd been the CityFord they'd have sold by the bucket

Looks similar to the Indian-market Renault Kwid to me. Not sure if they are related though.https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/renaul...

But still... 3 stars?
I have never, ever in my life checked the safety statistics and ratings for any car before buying it.http://www.dacia.co.uk/vehicles/duster/price-and-s...
But still... 3 stars?
It simply doesn't figure in my decision.
I would have thought that I'm not particularly unusual in this.
However, still good value basic motoring.
My guilty secret is that I REALLY want a Duster 4X4, in Access spec. It's just so perfectly spartan and utilitarian!
Plus it's K4M powered, which means the Twingo 133 engine will drop straight in, as will an F4R from a Clio 200 or the F4Rt from the Megane 275. The latter with a decent IC and a remap will do over 300BHP.

I'd prefer to live in a street of Dusters than a street of 'aggressively styled' white German metal. Something makes me think they'd just be nicer people.
. I suspect you are very much correct. If you're surrounded by lots of Dusters you're probably in quite a nice part of the UK with sane people and a deficit of 60" TVs from AO.
