No-one needs anything more than a Ford Focus.
Would rather drive round in a Ford Focus to be honest. Don't need to spend £100k plus on a pointless 2 tonne SUV to compensate for anything that's lacking.Go and drive you're SUV round a track and see how long your tyres last!!! In the meantime I'll be running rings round you in my Elise - oh and having much more fun in the process.
I don't have anything lacking, I'm suspecting you do to think that way.
I also don't need to spend anything, and haven't spend £100k on an SUV. But I also don't have green-eyed hatred for anyone that does.
And good luck with getting 5 people and 5 bikes in/on your Elise.

Perma-tan brigade out in force today! No one needs a big 4x4 unless they live out in the countryside. Trying to justify your 4x4 on practical grounds just makes you look silly. Why not just say why you really bought it, i.e. as a status symbol, to outdo the Jones's and to help you make you feel superior to others on the road? For that purpose, monstrous, brash & showy 4x4's are the most practical thing going.
Surprised you can type with such a big chip on your shoulder.popeyewhite said:

What great car isn't compromised....?
The Overfinch RR isn't by any stretch a great car, and it's compromises are far more extreme than most.

Well fashion shape people's choices. So the answer is: people. Andy20vt said:

anyone can afford one on lease these days, they're as common as muck, ten a penny, nothing special at all.
Are you so rich that you’ve lost touch with the real world?Do you know how much a pint of milk is?
Not “anyone” can afford a decent Range on lease (excluding the Evoque), they’re about £1k a month plus insurance fuel etc.
You don’t have a clue big shot!

An Elise is effectively a grown ups toy, like any other 'sports' car. I love sports cars and if people choose to buy them, good luck to them and I'm sure they'll really enjoy the ownership experience. Same as this RR - Its all about the ownership experience. Some like a true sporty drive, some like a luxury drive with a pinch of compromised sportyness thrown in.
It's really not that difficult to see the attraction in many types of vehicles, no matter what your own personal favourites are.

Except an Elise isn't a pointless car - it's a driving tool and for the role it's been designed for it's perfect, but without being overly flashy in a show off kind of way. A sporty SUV is a massive compromise in every area. If you want usable load space, a large estate car or a much cheaper van is better. If you want off road a properly designed 4x4 is better. If you want speed and handling then a sports car is better. If you want luxury and comfort then most luxury saloon cars are much better. An Elise is effectively a grown ups toy, like any other 'sports' car. There are two areas however where the sporty SUV excels, and that is it's ability to follow fashion (if you're the sort that gets their fashion influence from reading the celebrity gossip magazines), and giving an image of perceived wealth, status and importance over other road users.

No thanks.
I'm sure footballists and pharmaceutical traders will like it though.
Most good pharmaceutical traders use taxis when working, this would be a weekend toy for them. I'm sure footballists and pharmaceutical traders will like it though.
Always makes me smile though when I pass the house of a well known ( to those that know) chap in Liverpool, it's a very modest terrace that has parked outside, at present, a bright blue one of these ( not this new version though) a white Cayenne,a black new Q8 and of course a taxi.
The only thing I would say about these and other Overfinch cars is that the exhausts sound epic when given the beans.
Also that a fully restored 570 is on my lottery list too........

most of us don't. ...and most car buyers are also not primarily driven by fashion.
The point is that buyers of certain marques are. To deny segments of the market are fashionable is a little odd. Colours, styles, types, interiors - fashion influences all of these.Andy20vt said:

1 - Don’t buy one
2 - Try not to be such a judgemental prick about those who do because ultimately what negative impact does it have on your life other than make you look a bit of chippy berk on an Internet forum !?

But I want a single car to do all those things, like an SVR.

Point 1 - I haven't and won't be.1 - Don’t buy one
2 - Try not to be such a judgemental prick about those who do because ultimately what negative impact does it have on your life other than make you look a bit of chippy berk on an Internet forum !?
Point 2 - They have a negative impact on plenty of other people. Heavier than they need to be (impacting crash survive-ability for people in more normal size cars), taller than they need to be (restricting forward vision for people in normal size cars), and wider/longer than they need to be (meaning that visits to the supermarket, or any other car park become a pain with so many of them around). Yes trucks, vans, buses etc are all bigger/heavier too but with that size comes a useful purpose.
What's more they're just so FAKE. I mean if you're not even going to go off road why by an SUV?
When I was in Australia a few years back I worked in a surf shop. Occasionally we used to get guys come in to buy a high performance surf board. We always asked a lot of questions about their riding style and it sometimes became clear that the guys had never even surfed. One even admitted he wanted one just to strap to the top of his car to make him look cool. We sold it to him of course, he bought some T shirts with big logos on too. Same sort of thing driving an SUV that will never see a spec of mud in it's life. A fashion/posing statement pure and simple.

I thought your gripe was with high performance SUVs ?
But. Is we seem to have moved on to a cut and paste anti-suv rant somehow underpinned with the usual nonsense.
If you are not going to do any driving on a track why buy a car with good track dynamics ?
If you are not going to go above the national speed limit why but a car which can do in excess of it ?
The list goes on and on....
