I think you linked to the wrong V8 Vantage by mistake. Try this one:

My F-Type V8 sounds pretty special
This is the thing with V8's. All of them sound great when compared to most "ordinary" 4 pot cars. There really isn't a bad sounding V8.

The S62 in the E39 M5 is probably one of the best V8's made. Thinking about it, I am tempted to take my vote for the S65 back as the S62 was an absolute howler at full chat, even if it (only) went to 7500rpm. Much better sounding than any of the V8's from then and probably from now.
I had an E39 M5 for 5 years and whilst the engine is an absolute belter, the standard exhaust is too muted. With a proper exhaust it does make the grade, although sadly most people just modify the backboxes which 'usually' results in a less than spectacular V8 fartnote.

Got a soft spot for the 6.2 AMG. My resonator deleted E class is addictive, but I think either the TVR Griffith or Maserati 4.2 are my favourites. Just too hard to call one out.

The Maserati V8 must surely be the winner. My old Granturismo 4.7 + Larini back boxes was an epic combination. Gurgly at low revs, howling at mid revs, growling under load, and snarling screaming bellowing at high revs.

Lancia Thema 8.32.
Ferrari 308 V8 with a cross plane crank.
Kind of Italian/German V8 mash up.
Will post a sound clip once I can get the f**ker started !

Sauber C9 sounds glorious
A proper Chrysler Hemi (not the modern Hemi's that are only a marketing name) from a Charger or something.
And yes diesels V8s can sound good, go listen to a Warrior IFV or something similarly large.

I remember when I was a teenager and saw and heard a TVR 400SE drive past me. I was just amazed by the sound and thought I'll get one of those one day.

I bought a 350i and thought that sounded good then I got a 400SE with a sports exhaust. I've never heard a car like it. Just awesome.
I had a 400 SE and a Maserati GranTurismo S, the TVR sounded amazing but I preferred the Maserati, I loved how the tone changed across the rev range,I could play tunes with the gear change. biggrin It is probably the best sounding car I have ever driven and I have driven some fairly special cars including a Zonda and Koenigsegg.
I am not a fan of most German V8s because they tend to just produce a tuneless blare.

Terrible driving but it does give a good idea of the noise.

Completely agree with all that, I've had four V8 TVR's in varying forms and a 4.7S MC Granturismo S... the Maser noise inside and out is leagues above the TVR'S ( it's not all about just a loud exhaust on V8 and once the cat's went on in 1993 it ruined most of them anyway). In the real world I honestly think it's the best sounding car straight out of the box that there is.

I would rather be sailing

The supercharged Jaguar V8 in my range rover sport takes some beating but for V8 heaven you cannot beat the Edward Turner designed Daimler V8 used in the SP250 and MK2 saloon

We have six pages and without doubt Eclypse you are right no V8 car sounds better than a GT8 with a titanium exhaust, in fact, i think its the best sounding car full stop.

Not really heard any bad V8s to be honest. But the 'fettled' 5.0L Chimera my neighbour has is just bliss - think i'm the only one in the road who appreciates it as an alarm clock as well... hehe. His son has the new 5L Mustang and nice as it is, the TVR has an authenticity to it. But i'd take most cars with a V8!!!

For me the nicest sounding V8 has always been the DFV. Despite being around 10,000bhp nitro burning TFX's, I don't think they're particularly pleasant sounding, so wouldn't call them nice, they're just effective at doing a job and make a quite brutal noise as a byproduct (somewhat uncomfortable for ones ear drums).

When I ran a Big Block Chevy on nitro, that made a fairly unique noise that some appreciated - combustion chamber design being regular Chevy shaped, it sounded more fierce than the more traditional 426 based fuel burners.

Some old footage of the Chevy motor running, albeit on 7 cylinders come the end... biggrin
