OK Question....

Should I replace my Alfa Romeo 4c or my Focus RS with an Alpine?

Nobody can answer that except you, however if you ever need to carry anything bigger than a suitcase, a garage with only an Alpine and a 4C would be challenging. My tuppence worth: 4C is the better track car. Alpine is the better road car. Focus the better shopping trolley (and a very good one at that.)

laugh I think what you mean is “it’s looks are not quite to my taste.”

Mine neither, but do tread carefully, Alpine folk don’t take kindly to criticism. smile
The fact that the press to a man are of the opposite view (despite expressing reservations about competing cars like the Supra) is perhaps odd.

If people ACTUALLY don't like the looks that's fine- aesthetics are a personal thing. But it does seem that almost all who take that view seem to be Porsche fan-boys, so one is sorely tempted to think that it's not the looks that they really object to, but the badge.

They also tend to make comments like 50k for Renault!!! - which tends to reinforce that impression.

True - but an Alpine is a far more practical every day car than a 4C in terms of refinement and luggage space. The real question is do you need the luggage space of a Focus - if so an Alpine won't cut it, but a Cayman probably would.

The other question being do you ever track the 4C? If not, it would probably become redundant when the Alpine arrived.

If you don’t need 4 seats then drop the focus for an Alpine. I’ve done close to 8000 miles in mine - they are actually very practical. Shotguns and guitars go behind the seats and are out of sight (car was designed for a 6’6” driver and whilst I’m a powerfully built company director type I don’t need all that legroom.
Front boot takes cricket bags and the rest fits in the rear boot.
I love the look of the 4c but felt the interior let it down a bit when I looked at one before the Alpine. I can see the justification for having both - Alpine for daily and long trips and the 4c for a Sunday blast. You might end up preferring the Alpine but at least at that point you’ve got both cars to compare. Alfa 4c should be kept on the basis it is very pretty (with the spyder lamps not the “spider-eye” set up in the first models IMHO)

I'd expected you to be out to Provence to have a shot of mine by now Andrew! But how does your comment above with your earlier view that you couldn't get your head round its looks?
Well well, didn't expect to find you round these parts! Hope all is well in Provence, we're down in Carcassonne next week for a wedding, looking forward to some nice weather, and wine of course wink

I think I'm just a sucker for a yellow car, not that Rachel would ever allow me to have one. I do find the looks challenging, but I've not seen one in the flesh, so that opinion might change when I do.

Ha ha, Ive been here almost 20 years, pretty much since PH started. I once almost responded to some crap you were spouting about the TTRS, but resisted!

The Alpine is a great car, and tbh, yellow would have been my choice. (Always loved my Fiat coupé in "schoolbus yellow"). But back to the Alpine, very pretty in the flesh, as opposed to the more aggressive look of some sports cars. I have never had a car that attracts so much attention, and that includes 3 TVRs! Taxi drivers stick their thumbs out of windows, people stop to let me out at junctions, and people ranging from 13 year old schoolgirls to men in their 80s have approached me in car parks asking for photos. Parking is not for the faint hearted as there is often a line of truckers watching. Maybe this is in part due to living in France - they are very proud of this car, but they are still very rare. I thought hard about a Boxter for the benefits of being a convertible, but the CayBoxes arent really to my taste. In fact here in Provence, they are a cliché. It seems that every grey haired couple have taken their pension lump sums and bought a Porche to cruise around at 10kph below the legal limit.

In Renault Liquid Yellow (i believe this is a liquid wrap too). I understand from the dealer that they were reluctant to offer 'Renault' colours in order to put some distance between the Alpine brand and parent company.

I speculated earlier that was the reason for not offering yellow.

But I have to say, that is really really nice.

I agree it does look good in Liquid Yellow. Unfortunately looks like wrapping is the only option at the moment and having spoken with a number of owners who have had various letters drop off the bonnet following ppf applications I’d rather not risk it. The original A110 Berlinette was produced in numerous colours... not sure why they didn’t give us the option of a few updated versions of these?

I had ppf applied and the film was laser cut around the lettering so no need to remove. Would be more difficult with a wrap but surely any wrapper worth their salt would reattach them properly...

That’s what I thought they did..., I think it was few of the early ones done by a company called Ceramic Pro via the dealer.

Litchfield have their spray-on film stuff and have shown it on their A110:

I wonder if the restricted colour range is a cost thing - perhaps too expensive to offer lots of options? Not that the paint is cheap anyways.

Personally I'd have liked a nice vibrant/evil green.

Alpine vs 4c; Now that’s a future classic road test, if ever I saw one.
Come on PH, you know you want to...

I did see a group test - Alpine won hands down. All the other freestanding 4C tests would lead you to that conclusion. That said early cars were not set up well for UK conditions and the steering was far too darty for bumpy British roads. I must say I haven't driven a 4C, but the tests were so damning that I didn't consider testing it.

That said American tests were much kinder to the 4C.
