Too right, love a manual in the right car. I.e an s2000 from 20yrs ago...But these Modern Boxes are just so good nowadays... unfortunately I think a lot of people complain about them simply as they haven’t used a good one paired with a hot engine.
I.e you can’t compare an auto diesel mondeo to say a MDCT in a 500hp M4.
Give me a PDK porker over manual every day of the week.
And not to be too much of a wimp, the Porsche paddles are a very satisfying thing to use. MILES nicer than Audi's plastic efforts which are awful.

My point is, none of these sell for anything close to the base RRP after options, I'm sure even you would spend at least a few ££££, and you don't see any return on investment on any of these.
Porsche is a premium sports car manufacturer, I expect some kind of basic features that are standard on things like a Honda jazz...
The "no I want a stripped out lightweight car" argument is a little hard to accept given the near 1500kg weight.
If you really want the raw experience with a manual 6-banger and no turbos then why not grab a Lotus Exige?
Why do ypu 'expect ' those features , because they are available on another vehicle ? thats very odd logic , Porsche have built a car that is pretty much perfect (not just me all the reviews I have heard / read say so) at the thing it was designed to do , what Porsche is doing is giving you the chance to add stuff you dont actually need so are giving you a choicePorsche is a premium sports car manufacturer, I expect some kind of basic features that are standard on things like a Honda jazz...

I have spoken with my OPC they will take an order for a PDK GTS 4.0 but his 'off the record' comment was that I probally wont see it for a year robburdett said:
If the rumours are true that the next gen Cayman will be a six pot, won't it make the 718 GTS look a bit steep (4 litre engine aside)?
Next gen Cayman more likely to be an EV...Some of the European tax rates on these 4.0's are insane look at the Belgian rates posted earlier:
4.0 €10233 tax to get it registered
€2612 anual tax
Thats €12845 before youve driven the car
Cayman S 2.5L €2950 tax to get it registered
€678 anual tax
Thats €3628 which is a lot more bearable
Cayman 2L €2084 tax to get it registered
€447 anual tax
At € 2531 thats one fifth of the tax on the 4.0
Ouch, the 2 grand UK first year tax looks cheap by comparison.

No facts to back my statement up obviously! I just assumed that the next S version will be a fair bit cheaper with little in it in terms of performance, probably more fuel efficient and with a better cabin. That said, if its an EV (see next post), the 718 GTS may ultimately prove a bargain from a depreciation perspective. Lexington59 said:

He mentioned that 2nd was good for over 80mph and that the engine had plenty of shove from 3000 rpm - which didn't really strike me as addressing the

as he says "plenty of torque from 3000 and it goes beserk over 6000"
well, sports car, we want to be around 6000 not 3000!
still looks to be a really great car with gearing as its (only?) weakness. inference is that it's Sutcliff's favourite car of the moment.

In the whole 6 mins he changes gear 4 times, it sits in second gear virtually the whole time. This just reinforces the frustration rather than mitigates it.
The Evo report is wholely positive https://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/cayman/202238/porsch... However, it does say that second gear is too long on the TRACK, but is fine on the road. It also says that the Cayster uses double wishbone suspension - so how much credence should you give it?I do get the feeling that (natural) euphoria over the re-introduction of the NA6 might be clouding their judgement a tad.

Actually, the rumours I've seen floating around are that the next gen Cayman is going to be electric. A sportscar evolution of the Taycan technology.ETA links:
