A good performance last thread. The posting rate was better than any since volume 4.

This graph shows the recumbent redhead in her full glory, complete with stabby thing.
To me, it shows a redhead with mouth open, accepting of the teabagging that she is about to receive.
TMI!!!

That e39 looks extremely smart. They are such well proportioned cars.

Apologies if this is in fact a dreadful old heap, my Merc beard is non existent, but I found it interesting...

It's an interesting car. All UK-spec 560s, be they SELs or SECs, came with the high output ECE engine. It is rated at 300bhp and 339lb/ft torque and moves the surprisingly light w126 with impressive vigour. However, very few came with the hydro-pneumatic suspension option. It looks like it is a genuine "every possible option" car, having orthopaedic seats and engine under shield as well. It appears to be lacking the air filter assembly. The bodywork requirements would put me off at that price. Also those wheels would have to go.
Nice summary and an interesting insight. What extent of bodywork would need to be undertaken, in your view and at what cost?

Personally, I forgive the alloys as they give it a certain levity; like a cool older chap that wears some smart trainers with some smart casual gear.
I can PM you some style advice—brown hassled loafers—but suffice to say, we may both be cool older chaps, but neither of us should ever adorn these impressive physiques with smart trainers (oxymoron, Shirley?) nor smart casual gear.

It is nice, but suckling at the devil's teat goes against this one.

As an aside, I once had a (very) ropey E46 330d Touring Auto. It was a shocking pile of crap, but by god could it shift!

And at a mere 4 times budget: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1212292

What an interior! I would love another one of these, but not at that price.

I love the 5 series in gold.

Mostly because i own one smile

It isn't in as such nice condition, but then again it only cost 10 percent of that price last summer...

I'll check in to this volume with the jaunty information that I brimmed my 100litre tank shortly before the entire world went home, at c. 128p, and have been nowhere since. I'd love to be taking advantage of the 103p-ness.

Any idea what the poster for ‘John Cassavetes’ is about (second from left)? The others have some automotive connection but I’ve only seen him in the Dirty Dozen in which I thought he was spiffing.

As you were.

Best case? It’s a scam and the seller mugs you for the asking price. Could be worse, you could actually get the car and be on the hook for bills the size of the purchase price.... ;-)

I saw that on eBay a few days ago and I've had a long think about it!

Going back to the tail end of Vol 15, this S4 was on there, now I'm no expert on Audi's, but are these not 20 grand cars now?

The B5 RS4 is; not the B5 S4.

I'm not sure how bargey they are, but as a quick and relatively subtle-looking estate they're a solid choice. The list of work to sort that one out is very confidence-inspiring.

A friend of mine used one of these with the wick turned up modestly, it was utterly reliable and yet 450hp.

It's Lexus Gear so what do you think?

In that spec, basically indestructible. Interior parts, particularly door cards will probably be a bit worse for wear and are hard to find but running gear wise, nothing to worry about

I thought it says 'Hommage' above his name but not too sure. I can't enlarge it without blowing the resolution. He was also in Rosemary's Baby. A cool dude.

The car is also cool, if a tad pricey.

This looks rather nice - low-ish mileage, and it's got a fridge.

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

This is now sold, apparently, but since we're talking about E39s, doesn't the Champagne II interior look absolutely perfect? I'd love one of these. In some respects £4500 feels toppy, but in others, I think I could be tempted.

And this is just fabulous and I want it immediately. When it broke down, at least it would be easy for the AA man to spot.

Sadly, Cambridgeshire, where the floundering government has decreed essential shops to include Aldi, The Range, and Sports Direct.

In Haute-Vienne, the local Mairie has required cheesemongers, chocolate shops, and even florists to remain open, demonstrating a different cultural interpretation of "essential".

It's a great looker in Sport form, but that price is laughable, even with the apparent miles. And I posted some high priced st earlier! That it is what, Euro 2 or 3 and still manages to have diesely bits that break suggests a petrol one would be far better.

The Lexus Soarer is a great find/post and the S600 - well if it goes tits up, pull the engine and wiring loom out of it, put it on a frame and keep it in the garage to run up with no exhaust system whenever you like.

Yes that comically priced E39 530d looks great with the Sport kit, but the appeal a 20 year old BMW diesel nowadays is massively diminished in my opinion. The MPG difference is what, 7-8 at best (not forgetting the black pump costs more per litre) , and with more to go wrong over the petrol plus the usual E39 foibles, it could work out a more expensive prospect than a 530i.

My auto 530i Sport would happily average 37/38 MPG on a long trip. My 528i managed over 40 mpg on occasion too.
