There’s far to many people who enjoy their ICE cars for them to simply disappear in 20-30 years time , so many different makes and models of cars . Ev are good for city and school run , but zero appeal to me but I am old school I guess , I’ve never driven an electric car , sure Tesla looks fast but one trick pony ? I imagine driving it akin to losing one of your senses , which to a ICE car enthusiast is very important, the sound of the engine to me is important feedback to how the car is actually behaving , rev matching heel and toe etc , all part of a good car , would you get this feedback in an EV ?

If it’s going to be possible to run our ICE cars on CO2 neutral fuels, then aren’t we getting too obsessed about EVs being the only answer through banning the sale of ICE vehicles, rather than having a balanced choice of what we would like to drive?

It wasn’t long ago when new homes were supposed to be zero carbon after 2016. Seems house builders were let off the hook.

I think you're missing the point...

The kids these days don't care as much, if at all, about petrol cars in the same way that the older generations did. In 30 years time most people who are now 60 will be dead; most people who are now 50 will have already bought their last car. Their kids, and their kids kids, will be on the whole happy with an EV, or more likely happy not owning a car at all. They will demand something convenient, cheap and clean, probably (IMO) a hydrogen car, driven by a computer, not some dirty, rattly, smelly car you actually have to concentrate on driving.

So many people are in denial about what is obvious. Petrol cars will go the way of the steam engine - the majority will be scrapped, and a few will be kept by enthusiasts. If you think 30 years is a long time, the change from road going traction engine, or agricultural engine to internal combustion was about 30 years. Say 1910-1940? By 1940 many of the companies producing traction engines had simply gone bust, unable to keep up with the changing times.

Brazil has a minimum 25% ethanol blended petrol fuel with 100% Ethanol also used widely.

Like all energy sources, there are costs involved in producing the fuel, including electric. Ethanol crop based fuels work for Brazil.

My own road car is mapped to use either SUL or a 20% Methanol mix with SUL. Using alcohol based fuels gives great power and torque benefits, but requires more fuel flow.

There is currently no issue producing petrol fuels, but even if that became too expensive, plant based fuels work well, if you can produce enough of it for the demand, which based on the uptake of EV wont be a problem.

Kids. The key word. If we keep on having kids then the topic of automotive fuel source is almost irrelevant; unless we're willing to make that sacrifice then everything else is just degrees of selfishness.

Do you ever fly?
Have kids?
Buy food from a supermarket?
Live in a house with CH?
Commute to work?

Don't ever think for one moment buying an EV saves you from been the same as the rest of us.

I'm selfish, I'm a product of a privileged western upbringing much like yourself. I am however aware of this conflicting situation.

You on the other hand are utterly deluded if you think you are saving your kids and grandkids future by buying a Tesla.

There are 2-3 billion people on this planet who would sell their own kids to get the lifestyle that enables you to buy a £70k EV. What makes you think any one of them will give a damn about the environment in the pursuit of getting what you have?

I take it you have decided not to answer the questions so you don't have to come up with some excuses of your own?

We all know combustion engines are going to be phased out by emissions regulations, it will start with the mainstream but at some point it will effect all remaining combustion engine vehicles and for some it will be an unaffordable hobby. Clearly this doesn't bother you but why is it so important for you to tell anyone who holds a different opinion they are wrong? Are you an activist smile

Ok, so we all do nothing then.
That's that problem solved.

Based on my observations, Tesla owners seem to have a bigger carbon footprint than most, but have an extremely pretentious view of their approach to car buying...

Most decent/performance electric cars are overpriced, bland with sub standard build quality. What do we expect though, it’s still relatively early days - company’s are relying on these early adopters to fund future cars for the more pragmatic of us.

Maybe we should start by banning MX5s. Awfully selfish of someone to own a polluting car like that and not car about the world we leave for our children...........

Perhaps we should! I sold it a year ago as I didn't use it.

Might convert one to electric one day.

Did you also chaps deny the fall of the Roman empire as it ended?

The PH demographic is old. That much is obvious from the opinions expressed on many threads.

Things move on.

Lets be honest, there is no reason an EV can't be fun to drive, My daily EV is the most fun (normal) car i've driven in ages, and makes me smile .everytime i drive it, in fact, it makes me WANT to drive it !

(it actually reminds me of an early elise in the way it handles, matching a relatively low level of grip with a very responsive, perhaps too responsive, chassis)

Snap. Our i3 is great, I completely concur.

I think the biggest anti-EVers are those who are yet to try one.
