Not very racy looking is it but maybe that's the point. Food I do bland but my cars I like them spicy and that includes the looks

I thought they were EV (and hatchback) only. Learn something new every day.
What's your point? They're both a way of blowing £70k to carry four adults around, regardless of powertrain.

The fundamental problem is that it's only got half an engine.

No. It went 6.2 NA > 4.0 turbo to 2.0 turbo hybrid electric.

The price is an eye opener.

Having said that, the list price without options of my 1996 C36 AMG (which cost me £5k 17 years ago) was £38,500. Adjusted for inflation, this seems to be somewhere in the region of £89k. Which is huge money.

Anyway, I’m out of touch.

£71k for this plastic fantastic wheeled computer? No thanks.

I have driven a new C63. It felt cheap, hard and fake. Fast, but that was its only trick. Too fast for the roads.

The interior of new Mercs feels as if it’s designed to attract shallow magpies.

Its inoffensive. I'm sure it'll be a good daily driver/family car. But so is a C220d.

Price is high, but not surprising. back in the days of very low APR finance they probably would have shifted a few. Not sure what this will be offered at but i think discounts will be heavy.

Still, if it were my money i'd go for an m340i.

I struggle to really understand who a car like this is aimed at?

Who knows perhaps we will look back and see these as a high water mark…..i doubt it but i struggle to think that a company like Merc can really be that far adrift with customers?

There are tens of thousands of Tesla Model 3 on the roads.
You're not wrong. I was on a small car park in the lakes today and there were 5 Tesla model 3's within 10 places of me. All white. I didn't realise how crap a white Tesla looks close up. I'd rather have a club foot!!

Sorry. A 2.0 Litre 4cyl car is not an AMG. It’s a marketing exercise.

Spot on list is nonsense on these and peers heavily discounted, especially end of months...

Has anyone actually paid anywhere nr 70k for a 5 n?

I hope it does well enough. Compared to an SUV or electric car/SUV it's going to have a tough sell in today's world but would seem to have a lot to offer. I wonder why there weren't any interior pictures though? Mercs used to be quite classy IMHO but I can see them ruining that if they've gone glitzy/black plastic inside.

AMG website states:

Affalterbach is home to ... AMG hand-crafted engine building. This is where AMG V8 engines and AMG 4 cylinder/in-line engines are produced. Each engine is hand-assembled by a single engine builder according to the "one man, one engine" philosophy and provided with a badge hand-signed by the relevant technician.

I wonder if these techncians are entirely happy putting together these 4-pot faux AMG motors....
They should be happy to have a job still. Few more years and they’ll be redeployed on the battery production line

Hmmm.
