I always laughed at the snobbishness; if they were good enough for WRC champions to drive , then why would you listen to loud mouth 'experts' spouting their ill informed nonsense; PH doesn't half attract them.

I had the blue SE version, and it was a very good real world car; ate up the miles when away spectating on rally events all over the country, and economical with it.
Oh lol

Leaky stbox with average handling and good mpg

Great everyday car if you need something small, average handling and leaky.

ste drivers car.

No issue here with snobbishness, I ran a 2006 Octavia VRS from new for 4 years or so which was a fantastic car, bar the constant condensation/water ingress.

Me in the French Alps 2008 in my much modified 2004 Fabia vRS, black pearl, black interior with red piping courtesy of the same York-based trimmers as above.

Audi TT wheels and brakes, Turbo Technics upgraded turbo, uprated intercooler, EGR bypass, oil catch-can, replacement K&N filter in the standard airbox, Sachs organic clutch and replacement fly-wheel.

Before getting it remapped, the financial crash caught up with me and I did no more with the car. I sold it to one of the lads who used to maintain it for me.
He measured it on a rolling road at 180 bhp and I can't remember how many torques. It's still on the road as an everyday driver.

I miss my DIY Fabia almost as much as my last off-the-shelf Impreza STi.

You might. Millions of us never go near a ULEZ.

You naively believe there won't be more ULEZ like zones popping up in other cities?

There are several already. About £50 a day for my old campervan, but London is £300 a day. There are several places I can't go to anymore as it's not just a few quid for me.
I don't mind something around £10-£15, but £300???!!!

True, and I forgot Oxford exists, which is possibly most car unfriendly city in the UK.

When you look what you could get for nine grand in terms of a small, fun hatch, then you look at that.

They were ok but nine grand gets you into something way better than an old diesel Skoda.

Completely agree. I really liked the two that I had, but I wouldn't revisit and certainly not for that kind of money.
