RE: Three New Land Rovers Revealed

I dont understand peoples view that 4x4 take up loads of room etc. It’s totally irrational. They are the same length and width as many saloons. Ok so they are bigger height wise but that doesn’t make any difference.
But it does. Most cars, whether they be hatchbacks, saloons, sports cars etc. generally have the same height/line of vision. i.e. you can see "through" other cars which gives you better visibility of what's going on. You can't do this with 4x4s, vans, buses, some mpvs, lorries etc.4x4s take little more space than large execs/saloons - I agree. However, many 4x4 driver are women who would previously had hatches or small mpvs etc.
However, I say if someone wants a 4x4, let them have one. I'd like on at the mo what with my prolaspsed disc! I can't even get in my Honda.

(2)my sweeping generalisation is based on experience of
A living in Surrey with a High ratio of these kind of cars being driven by complete Idiots with little or no car control.
B The RRS that hit my car as it reversed out of a Parking spot whilst the female driver was on the phone!
C I drive a Toyota Vigo
twice a Year in Jungle, Island Roads (Dirt Tracks)and over there Range Rovers very, very Rarely Make it off road unless they have been Jacked up.
You're generalising even more! There is more to a "4x4" (presumably you lump Rav4s and Range Rovers together!) than just their off road capabilities. A Range Rover, for example, is a full 5 seater car with a boot and a very high standard of luxury. So, surely then, there is more to it than its off road capabilities?(2)my sweeping generalisation is based on experience of

Re : your example of a girl backing into you. This isn't the fault of the car. I think you might have to consider blaming the driver for that one! You can't possibly be alleging that ALL drivers of a certain type of car are ALL idiots can you? That would be ridiculous. Again, where does that type of prejudice end? Surely then all Porsche [insert other type of fast car here] drivers are all speeders? Come on.

Why are they testing an off road 4x4 at the 'ring'?
Surely it should be tested across a ploughed field with a horse box attached.
It is quite bizarre that as soon as power is given to 4 wheels and not just 2 some people assume the vehicle is an "off-road" vehicle. Range Rovers are ROAD vehicles. They also happen to be very good off road. Their primary use is for road use. A tractor is primarily used off road. You should be able to see the difference.Surely it should be tested across a ploughed field with a horse box attached.
Now that is bizzarre

I am not including Subaru Justys Rav 4 or the like.
Its the frickn huge SUVs that are being drive/dumped by people generally women in the area I live.
If you live in the 18th Floor in a tower block in Stockwell YOU might not have the experiance of this!?
I dont like them, or the people that drive them very much...might have something to to with there personallity.....and believe me its an everyday thing with the Arrogance and self obsessivness of them on my commute to work etc.
To compare against a Porsche (or other fast cars)....well if you drive such a car in the U.K you have a certain amount of driving Skill, but again is that generalising? ask the People on PH with Fast cars.
In a Range Rover ....in the real world are you ever likely to go across fields. Or are you going to use a Daihatsu Four Track instead ?

You suggesting that all Porsche drivers "have a certain amount of driving skill". Sheesh. You have much to learn.
By the way, my friend, you won't like me very much. I live in rural Hampshire and drive a Land Rover Discovery III! I do have three kids though and we use the boot to carry prams and stuff. Does that mean that I don't need a car like that or should I just go and buy a Daihatsu Fourtrak?

But You maybe should consider a Fourtrak.

Just out of curiosity how much is this going to cost the British tax payer???
as the Owner of a Delorean
I believe that we are paying for the LRX??
Cant help feeling that the engineering is a bit excessive for the Run to Waitrose and the School.
The Land Rover Dealerships in this country are on there arse!
just thought I'd state a point!
1) For the 10th time ITS a LOAN GUARANTEE for the EIB (European bank) not UK alone, same pot the EU countries put into, and have already taken out of, so while moaning about the your taxes supporting british workers finally, perhaps you should have been worrying they have been supporting foreign based car makers for MONTHS!!!! and they only cost you something when they dont get paid back, they currently are being at a decent rate of interestas the Owner of a Delorean

2) the grant was a small portion to go towards LR researching future green technologies, most of it will go back to UK universities and industry for R&D, ie BRITISH ENGINEERING!!!!
3) They are engineered to be very capable 4X4's, that the owners do not use this capability is not down to the manufacturer . How many people buy 'over engineered' 100m waterproof diving watches and only take them in a 2m swimming pool
Oh and thats a number of opinions not 'a point' your stating

I hate the idea of 4x4's for the road
Then you need to spend a day driving your wonderful road car in Islington, an inner London borough where the streets have been designed as a test track for Land Rover. Where every pot-holed and crumbling road has speed bumps and where your average sports/enthusiast car will last a few thousand miles before requiring new shocks, springs, undertray, oil sump etc. Edited by audidoody on Thursday 9th April 14:04

Article doesn't mention engines in the grown up's Range Rover, are they getting the new small diesel, and 500bhp petrol?
Just as high mileage TDV6 Disco's are getting affordable,LR go and make them look old fashioned-oh well back to saving!
My thoughts exactly on used TDV6s !Just as high mileage TDV6 Disco's are getting affordable,LR go and make them look old fashioned-oh well back to saving!

I guess its the old demands and needs argument.
If Land Rover want more Envirolmentally friendly cars why dont they build Subaru Justy Style cars?
Just cant help thinking the British Tax payer is going to get shafted again...I want my money back from the Millenium Dome!!!

You would rather see 1000's of british jobs lost and all them stuck on the dole instead?
Whats going to be cheaper and better for the country in the long run? dole takers or building world beating and class leading cars that are very capable (with right tyres) and can do many things?
If you dont like them then fine, many of us do. I own a freelander, im 21 and a student. Do you hate me for never using it off road? Before you throw your keyboard at me, do check my thread in the off road section asking about scottish greenlanes...
I like the look of the new cars. Disco will look better with different back lights and in silver/black/green i recon.
Disco has been out since 2004, RRS since 2005, Range Rover since 2002. Cars get facelifted after 4-5 years anyway so why should landrover not do it as well.
The recent advert campaigns were to shift the backlog of cars and its worked quite well appently.
One question, is it still going to be called a Discovery 3 or thanks to a new engine, interior and revised exterior the Discovery 4?

imo if you're breaking sumps driving over speed bumps either your car's been excessively lowered or you're going too quickly

Sometimes things are designed to be toys to try to impress other people at the Golf Club. My old Superb could Park itself, never used it, couldn't park itself on my drive.
