In don't like to criticise a car purely on looks and before I've had a go in one etc.etc. but, in my opinion, it just doesn't look right somehow:

1) The overall A5/S5 shape is a bit 'heavy'
2) The wheels look too big - like those Kahn goons have had a fiddle with it
3) It needs to be lower (ironic considering (2) above but hey ho)
4) I don't like the rear spoiler, it looks cheap

However, as a disclaimer it may well look fantastic in the flesh and hoepfully it will drive very well.

Definately looks lardy

pity, but maybe it will sell well then. biggrin

Sporting GT, rather than a GT3?

Genuine Halfords, but does one of the 911 TT's not have something similar & the TT RS?

That's my feeling too, it's Audi's best attempt to better the BMW's as an ultimate driving machine and with the high revving NA aspirated engine, and the sports diff and ceramic brakes they could just do it. Or at least equal it.

With the torque being so low this will need to be driven and though fun that is I am sure with that weight you're occasionally going to get a bit fed up with that.
Low torque, but lots of revs and gear reduction.

It's gonna feel plenty for any kind of normal day to day use imo, so why bother with even more mid-range power that just makes the top-end sparkle less when you use it?

Dave
You are correct; I certainly never feel that mid range punch is lacking in the RS4 anyway!

The V8 is actually a very flexible powerplant, and an absolute joy to drive.

If it has a reasonably comfortable ride (and I currently own a Z4M Coupe so believe me pretty much anything would be an improvement) and they see sense and release some with a manual 'box it may well make it on to Adycav's Potential Future Car Shortlist.

OK, if you read the brief of the guys who developed the Z4M, it is rather different to the brief handed out to the Audi boys so I expect it to be much more comfortable than the Z4M.

Manual box -- I doubt it. Why would they? If they can get these 1725kgs round the 'Ring in less than 8 minutes (was that in the brief too?) with the 7 speed box, why bother with a manual. The M3 CSL was SMG and I know there are people who would have preferred a manual box, but don't enjoy it any less IMO.

Apart from the seats, what is so good about the interior?
Didn't you know Audi interiors are the best? Why would anyone need to form a subjective opinion by sitting in the car and feeling the materials etc when they can just look at a sideways shot showing the seats?
Glad somebody is on my wavelength. smile

For what it's worth, here is a more enlightening pic. It looks alright but nothing special:

A very nice version of a car whose category forever baffles me. Whether it's an M3 (2-door), GTR (best in class IMHO) or this, a very large, heavyweight and high-powered two seater (the rear seats of these cars are a tip of the hat to the insurance companies - at least here in the U.S.) just doesn't float my boat. A smaller two seater (e.g. Cayman, Z4) will deliver more road feel and performance from a given engine and a 4- or 5-door will have more usable space but these 'tweener' cars just make no sense.
I accept that auto manufacturers make them because people buy them but though I admire their design beauty, I'd never consider anything in the category. It's the Olds 442 of the ages. How sad.

It was only mentioned about 6/7 times, but not to worry. 1725kgs, 50kgs more than the latest M3.

I thought they'd already launched this. Then I realised it's just that it was so prdictable'in much the same way as a convertible and 5 door hatch will be along as soon as the initial demand slows a little-which could be some time as I personally know two RS4 owners desperate for a new car and they've both been waiting for this. I'm guessing theres going to be a glut of one owner approved RS4's.

Erm,its just u, this IMO excites me top car Audi. This is what I expect of Audi not the boring A6 and A8.

The E92 M3 with DCT to match this with S-Tronic is 1675kg, so there is 50kg of a difference, not that much if you factor in this has proper 4wd.

Itsnotalways about the weight of bhp tp ton, the aerodynamics play a major role.

So thats 200kg heavier than an M3 and nearly half a ton heavier than an E46 CSL! Jeez thats heavy.
Which M3, the old one that was replaced over 3 years ago?

An E92 M3 with DCT weights 1675kg

This RS5 with S-Tronic weights 1725kg

So that is a 50kg difference. If it did not have the torsen quattro it would be lighter than the M3.

True but you will feel weight alot more everyday than any effects the aerodynamics have.

Both the M3 and this are too heavy but the E46 was not that far behind either, if it had a DCT it would have been 1600kg.

Wheter it is important or not I expect this to have a better 'ring time than the M3/R8 mainly due to the fact the TTRS matches the M3 abd R8 already. But it will fall back on tighter tracks like the TT due to slight understeer in very tight corners.

...i'm just about to buy my third RS4 - one of the last one's built (sept 07). It is the most engaging car I have ever owned / driven. I've had one since 06 and every time I drive it.. every time... it just delivers that buzz.

I'm sure the RS5 will deliver too... and that's why my name's on the list.

Question is... do I keep the '4 as well?

The word is RS and the word is mighty.

Here endeth the lesson.

Well said Dave!!! I love my RS4 the engines capabilities never fail to impress.. You have to drive one to appreciate the V8 as it just grows and grows on you.
Certain people talk about them being down on power but i think thats rubbish to a degree. My car is a fast now as the day i bought it (actually feels quicker the more miles i put on it).

The same engine is in the RS5 with more power!!!! That can only be a good thing...The only reason the RS4 has only 414bhp (allegedly) is because of the confines of the engine bay which allows only one air intake. The RS5 has two looking at the photos.

Quattro power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
