Looks like loads of '60s and early '70s Porsche racers - 904 / 917 / 910 / 908 etc.

Design wise, Porsche tends only to copy itself.

The design is far too exotic for a 911 though; 911 drivers are secret Beetle fans and don't want to drive around in something as flash as that.

Looks stunning. Passenger seat looks a bit uncomfortable though.
See the positive: You start the journey with a pale lady and after some electric contacts you arrive with a deeply tanned latina. Maybe you have to buy her a new skirt though. :-)

Stupid question: why does it have a wiper parked in the middle of the screen. Doesn't this obstruct vision somewhat?

Any one who thinks the car looks like a Ferrari may be should take up a career in the Porsche design studio if you think you could do a better job! Its very easy to compare looks against other cars, make the headlamps in various shapes and it would look similar to anything you wanted.

Sorry but until a car races it can't be called a "race car" in my book. When it does, I reserve the right to refer to exhibit A, the Ferrari P3/4.
Who cares?, best looking concept race car then.

Plus, this looks far better than the ferrari you mentioned IMO.
FAR better? Someone post a P3/4 pic please!

Umm yes, I stick to my statement Porsche looks better, sorry. Plus, why couldn't you have got an image yourself if you love this car so much?
Because like you, whenever I have tried to post a picture in PH I get a little red cross and not a picture. Not sure which picture you put up, but I have seen more shots of the actual car (Porsche) today and whilst it looks great, it looks far more generic than that Ferrari ever did.

Not bad looking ... but nowhere near the best looking racer ever.

The question that springs to my mind is ... where is this going to race? Doesn't seem to fit any existing GT class.

The ACO are keen to promote alternative technology so it could occupy the "56th garage" and race at Le Mans/ILMC. Only against itself though probably. Likewise it might appear in the Nurburgring 24h as a showcase. Bit meaningless though, needs to be racing other cars on merit to be a real race car.

The technology has already been utilized on the track - Petit Le Mans 2010, so hardly earth-shattering news.

If we're getting sniffy then last March or April saw that car's debut, in a VLN round. It has also been well publicised in PH and elsewhere. That's why this article is called: 'Porsche Reveals 918 RSR Concept At Detroit', because it's about the 918 RSR concept which happens to share technology with the GT3R.

In a similar vein I suppose you could post a link to yehorselesscarriage.com and an article on the Benz Patent-Motorwagen after every car review, because that technology has been utilised already too.
I'm not sure what 'getting sniffy' means, but I wasn't attempting to be offensive. Moreover, this is a technology that Porsche appear committed to in their racing programs across the board. I'm pretty certain that it will appear in the next iteration of the RS Spyder prototype too. That being the case, it's not such a sensational story that it's appeared in this model too.

Do you know anything about another iteration of the RS Spyder in the foreseeable future? It would be unlikely to be a P2 car, as the ACO don't want manufacturers in P2 as I understand it, and I can't see the VW board wanting Porsche to go head to head with Audi in P1. Then again, there are rumours that Audi might go into F1, leaving a gap for Porsche, and then Red Bull coming into sportscars the other way...

Correct - it can't be LMP2 - introduction of the power regenerative system would mean a break-out of P2 budget limit.

Because it won't fly off at 200mph I'd have thought.

That or just to reduce drag. Probably a bit of both.

WTF? Are you trolling?

There's definitely echoes of 908/917 in there!

It's interesting that most comments are about the appearance of the car rather than the technology under the skin.

I want to know if it more efficient to use the electricity generated by regenerative braking to spin a flywheel or use it to charge supercapacitors.
Less efficient but cheaper and lighter
