Yup,
the pictures could be a few years old. My own driveway satellite image shows a car I sold a while back.

Doesn't even look like the Newbury Tesco carpark layout tho, when I compare it to the ones in Google earth. Sure it's the right supermarket you're looking at?

Not sure at all - I just looked at the first hit which was the Tesco Extra in Pinchington Lane to see if it had any end spaces which would be locked in by other spaces... Aside from the hedge the one I ringed looked like it had the lane divider in the right place. Now we have digressed so far perhaps someone will find the correct Tesco and the correct parking space and put all our minds at rest.

Just back from ASDA in Portlethen, they are resurfacing and repainting the parking areas.

Short of getting a ruler out, I am sure they are a tad wider, not a lot, but it all helps. Not before time.

The number of spaces v the number of cars use it, they could easily made them a foot wider.

Just parked my Punto millimeters from the drivers side of a stereotypical de-badged BMW. My car was between the lines. The owner turned up before I had chance to take a photo'. hehe

Looks like a UK registered car?
Maybe we have started deporting people who can't park laugh

yup - on the face of it poorly parked... but maybe that's all he can do as he's working on that particular house?
Can you point me to the bit in the Highway Code where double-yellow lines and pavements are OK "if you're working on the house like" - it's probably the same bit as the "but I live here" and "I'm only going to be 2 mins" excuses ;0

You are, of course, allowed to load/unload on double-yellows (unless the kerb/other signage says otherwise) but it must be 'continuous' and that van doesn't seem to be being loaded or unloaded 'continuously' so...

In other news - I discovered that several people I know strongly believe that double-yellow lines - and indeed all parking restrictions including for a least once person the zigzags at crossings - can be ignored after 6pm

Seriously - I thought they were kidding but no - 6pm is a free-for-all (which I assume started because the few traffic wardens we've ever had all finished at 6pm or earlier!?)

Can't be arsed to park across the road, or 10 metres further up, just abandon on double yellows on a bend, and nip into the shop.

This corner can be quite busy.

The shop door is straight across from the drivers door by the way.

It's been a while, but has there been any update on the parking situation at Chesterfield Tesco?

It's still bad. Usually starts with the badly parked grey A Class Merc and micro econo box complete with dealer ads by the entrance to the car park and then just deteriorates from there.

so just what do you expect a builder to do then? Park 10 mins away when they may need to get to their van tout-bloody-suite? Would you be happy with a job taking a lot longer than necessary (or house damaged) because he's satisfied your "you must park legally even though it's 10 mins walk away" criteria?

Why can't they just take their equipment to site in the morning, drop it off, then go and park legally and considerately? Sometimes I have to go to clients with laptops, screens, projectors etc. Should I just stuff the car on the pavement, balls to everyone else?

Builders (and others) can get permission from the council to park on double yellows where essential AND safe to do so but IIRC it has to be authorised on a job-by-job basis.

Exactly.

Of course they can, but they rarely do. Thier objective is to get the job done as quickly as possible whilst cutting as many corners along the way. If that includes parking a van millimeters from the job, and causing an obstruction, then so be it.

the difference being if you bugger up the presentation looks ste - if a builder buggers up there could be a gas explosion or a flooded house. Your go

Not sure I understand why a builder not being able to block a pavement, would cause them to bugger up a job, anymore than than it would cause me to bugger up a 'presentation'. Not that I do presentations, but never mind.
