ETA: Ferris, I've gone full circle. As a kid, I was all about the curves / hips on the 288 and those iconic details (vents, wing mirrors, rear aspect with the lights / exhaust / visible oily bits). Homologated sex-on-wheels. Then in my adolescence / early adulthood (who am I kidding?!), I started a real (mrs) jonesing for the F40 - pared, no-nonsense ballistic weaponry of the most arousing kind. Now I've come back to my first love. If I'm ever in the position to marry her (ha!), I'll be sure to keep an F for inevitable mistress hehe

F40.

yes

As a kid i didn't really know about the 288 - bit like a stretched 308/328 and i never liked those. But when the F40 was released.... :thud:

Oooh! And didn't one of those get written off?

Any link? Can't seem to find it on their site.

Very nice - the 5-speed is a useful addition these days but the 4-speed was a lovely box

I've never even sat in one.

My grandad had a 2 door Mk 2, which I think was a mighty 1.3 (may have been 1.1).

Me too. A mighty 1.3GL* no less, but part converted to a Mexico looky-likey. redface

I'd have to strongly disagree there chap. The 5-speed ruins the car. It's an awful box both in terms of ratios and operation.

The four is annoying on the motorway but at least it shines everywhere else!
If you use a Sierra 2.0 Type 9 box olly the first 4 ratios are the same as the RS2000 ones ( 3.65, 1.97, 1.37, 1.00 ).....only you also get a 0.82 fifth which makes longer journeys on 70 limits nicer.

You're not getting confused with the V6 5-speed Type 9 are you? The ratios in that are different - better for a modded car generally rather than the KGF car here. Standard shift on the 4-speed RS2000 box is lovelier I'd agree ...but the type 9 can be improved

Lovely, and a manual too (despite the ad title)! No mention of when the Sytner conversion was done, but I presume from nearly new and they have the buildsheet to show it. £25k still sounds steep to me, but that's the current market for you I suppose if someone really wants it

They never quite appealed as much as E32s for me though:

Interesting. I'll have to look into the ratios, I can remember first being short as hell, and then second being way too long. A tran-x QS did improve the t9, but it was still awful!
yes

The road rally boys just put in a taller first, and a shorter overall final drive.

Either way, shift quality was not a patch on the 4 speed.

I'm with you on that - despite having the E38 uber-barge I'd still risk significant domestic wrath to obtain a 'pina 32 in either B11 or B12 flavour.
