This is a important if it's in their T's and C's although it doesn't state they reserve the right to make an extra charge for the pleasure of disclosure.

Page 29 - Section P

You must tell us as soon as possible about any changes which could
affect your insurance and which have happened since the cover first
started or since you last renewed it. If you do not tell us about these
changes, your insurance may not cover you fully or at all. If you are
not sure whether any facts are important, please ask your insurance
adviser. Here are some examples of changes you should tell us about.

■ Convictions and prosecutions.

Did you have those points before you took the insurance out and just forgot to declare them, or did you gain those points afterwards? If you had those penalty points before you took out this policy they have every right to charge extra if that's what they want to do, and if you are willing to pay.

If these points happened after the event i'm not sure they can then make an extra charge. Even though it may affect the price of your next renewal or with respect to any claims made, if at the time you took the policy/ies out you had no convictions, as there was nothing to declare the quote and price/s paid were correct.

You have complied with their T's & C's by declaring said penalty points therefore there is no reason for them to charge you a higher premium until your next renewal. If you didn't comply, there was a claim, and subsequently it was found out afterwards then they have every right not to pay out and/or withdraw cover in addition to any other legal consequences you may have to face for not declaring said penalty points.

If you have done everything by the book then there should be no charge!! I would get in touch with the insurance underwriter direct and ask them for any official Terms and Conditions that state they will make a charge for gaining penalty points during the course of your insurance policy. I don't think for one second they'll have anything at all that states just that, in writing.

If you have a big issue with it and you feel the charge is unfair and unjust and you get no joy from either AF or TL after having written letters of complaint to them you have every right to get in touch with the FSA and get them to look at your case.

In the meantime find yourself another insurance broker and take your business elsewhere.

Af tell me it is Trinity Lane. I'm going to dig our the documents and Ts &Cs and check. I do think it is excessive. I would be interested to hear what Ash has to say. Funnily enough I haven't asked for the 15% discount, so maybehe could get it applied retrospectively and keep this customer..
Hello
I can look into this for you. I can't comment on policies or charges etc until I have seen your file. Please PM me your name and post code and I can have a look.

Whoaaah,

What the hell happened there that I renewed automatically, and without any contact from you whatsoever !!!! very unimpressed mad
I never gave permission to renew the policy with Flux, so will not be renewing it now out of principal.

£1212.04... you must be joking, it's way overpriced too !! a 5 minute search online gives me big name insurer quotes for same cover of £840 or less. If actually spent some time looking I could probably improve on that.

Just checked my bank and the money's been taken too... I demand that be refunded straight away !!!!!!! furious

What a bunch of incompetant fools, one customer lost for good !!

Well done banghead

Read your T&C's?
If you haven't then it's not really AF fault is it?

You still have 14 days to cancel from the day you get your paperwork through. I would also ask them to waive the admin/cancellation fee because you genuinely were not aware this was a recurring renewal and complain that your are jolly well miffed they just took the money without any prior notification this was about to happen. Personally i think it's a bit of a scam, pisstake, whatever you wish to call it. I don't ever auto renew anything. These days you have to shop around as a matter of course.

It's fair to say many insurance companies don't operate this way and most let you decide not to auto renew by ticking the box, or just don't auto renew as a matter of course, in which case they will normally send you notification that your insurance renewal is due soon giving you the opportunity to get other quotes, and then go back to them to see if they can do any better.

That's the way it should be IMHO, however, when you're desperate for business because there is so much competition around you'll do whatever you have to, whether it seems fair or unfair, to get those precious coins, however they come, back into your coffers!!

Hello
First of all I'm sorry that we have lost you as a customer and if you still need help dealing with your complaint then you can PM me your details and I can look to see exactly what has happened. When your renewal comes round we will send out your renewal invite no later than 14 days before it is due. Depending on what correspondence type you have selected, either by e-mail or post. On there it will say again that we will automatically renew your policy and take payment unless we hear otherwise. We operate on this procedure because if for some reason you can't contact us or you are on holiday for example then your car will remain covered. If we hadn't renewed your policy and you didn't realise it had expired and then something had happened to your car then you would be in a much worse off position.
I'd imagine you have called us by now but if you still need help then PM me some details.

Thank you
Ash

Hello
I'm glad we have managed to help out.
To be honest I don't think it will say on a quote or renewal invite that there are mods on the vehicle. When the policy is taken out it should say on the statement of fact what mods are on the vehicle. I can confirm however that (without giving away too much info about your policy) you have the 3 mods listed that you have told us about so they will be fully covered.
Thanks
Ash

Excellent, thanks. I needed to add another modification to it, I mentioned it in my email to you. If I'm happy with the quote you've sent me, do I just leave it as it is and you guys will take the payments and renew automatically? If so, when do I get the 'statement of fact' document to confirm the mods? Thanks.

Hi Ash,

What are your policies for Classic insurance? Age, value etc? Looking for a quote and thought I'd try yourselves first before anyone.

Can PM you or call, whatever is easiest.

Hello
You should get your statement of fact with the rest of your documents once the policy has been renewed. You will either get it all via the post or e-mail. As you have spoken to us it may not be set to automatically renew. The best option would be to call up before it is due to pay before its due to start, that will also give you a chance to make sure all the details are correct.
Thanks

Hello

First of all for a car to be classed as a classic it would generally need to be at least 15 years old and be a genuine classic car ie not an old banger. Usually the vehicle would need to be garaged and have a low annual mileage (less then 5000). Also you would need to own and run a more every day car so you would only use the classic on weekends and evenings etc. With most of our schemes you would generally need to be at least 21 years of age. These are the general rules however they are not set in stone so if you would like me to have a look at a quote then please PM me the details from below and I can have a look for you.

Thanks
Ash
