I'm actually more shocked (but not surprised) by the aggressive driving of those that presumably feel that they are the ones 'in the right' in quite a few of the examples posted lately.

Drive defensively and with a smidge of common sense and half of these 'incidents' would never have escalated in the first place. I know it's annoying when a driver intentionally muscles their way through, but you've just got to let it go, it's not realistically going to add any time on to your journey and it's certainly not worth getting stressed about.

I guess it's the British queuing mentality (and the reason merge in turn just doesn't work in this country).

On my previous commuting route a guy in an old Merc would (often dangerously) overtake 4 or 5 cars at a time on a very narrow country road, flat-out straight line roundabouts without indicating to pass a few more cars etc etc. Same time every day so plenty of commuters got wise to it and often people would close up gaps when he was overtaking. Yes he was immensely frustrating and a bit dangerous, and no the police were unlikely to be able to do a great deal, but closing gaps...? The consequences (including for the innocent driver coming the other way) of actually achieving what they were hoping to do by shutting him out were unthinkable.
Indeed. A lot of the incidents in this thread could have been avoided if a driver just let it go. However, this is something some people simply cannot do. They'd rather cause an accident than try to avoid it.

It's not nice being on the receiving end of bad driving, but what can you do? Add to it?

I don't have a dashcam, but I was overtaken the other week by an absolute idiot in an Audi. The overtake was terrible. It was badly planned and resulted in him nearly heading into oncoming traffic. The only reason he didn't hurt himself, me and the poor sod coming the other way was because I braked and let him in. I'm not going to cause an accident just to prove a point.

Yeah. I agree. It's the same attitude on display in a lot of cycling dash-cam videos.

If you watch a lot of Russian dashcam vids a lot of the time what is actually leading to a crash is people's willingness to have a crash to be in the right.

edit
I mean not all of the time, but certainly some of the time.

People are the problem, and the problem is people.

Give some of those people cameras and they get even worse, because in their own tiny minds they think they have proof of the "wrongdoing" of others which makes them even less likely to ignore or avoid the issue.

Makes for entertaining videos though.

When people have cameras a lot of them actually promote a dangerous situation by speeding up etc when naturally you'd lay off the gas. Idiot mentality.

Road seems clear, and he spun as he let off the brakes. Could've been.

Um I watched a couple of the videos that were offered at the end of this clip.

There's one of the usual Russian dash-cam compilations.

The incident that unfolds between 0:41 and 0:55 - I defy anyone not to st themselves if they were in the white car!!

Don't watch the first incident if you're at all squeamish though.

These videos are always a salutary lesson in how quickly things can go badly wrong; but I am constantly astonished at how bad driving standards seem to be in Russia.
After watching a few of the unexpected things going on in that video I was half expecting a UFO or something to shoot some cars out of the way after a while!!!

A younger, more reckless me was on the receiving end of surprisingly vicious lift off oversteer in that model of Fiesta. A situation surely not helped by decent Goodyear on the front and worn ditchfinders on the rear. I've since spoken to others who've experienced similar in the same model, so it could be an incidence of that.

Something caught on a camera but annoyingly the company won't release the footage. It just goes to show what some people on the road are up to when they aren't paying attention.

Indeed. I've broken the speed limit. I've gone through a red light. I've cut people up. I've made left turns where I shouldn't. Right turns too. Hell even U turns! I've driven like an arse knowingly. And unknowningly.

You learn from all of this of course. And it makes you a better driver. It's called learning from experience. I call it life.

My favourite cycling instructor would probably say it's best to add to it and inconvenience other road users.

Why not just report bad drivers to the police?

That incident with the transit van starting at 1:36, what kind of idiot keeps trying to pass when a van is drifting into their lane

If he hadnt have had a dashcam would that first manouvre have even been remembered the next day?
The second one with the bike overtaking the car at the pinchpoint may have been

ABS and ESP haven't made it to most of Russia yet either.

Although how much both of those can offset copious amounts of vodka and a general lack of attention and awareness I have no idea....

I like the way he says "I'm miles from him, I'm miles from you".

Oh well, it looks like I have been giving cyclist far to much room wink

Had that happened to me while cycling, I personally couldn't care less, in fact I would have let the car past me. I certainly wouldn't try and block him.

My guess is that it won't be long before this guy gets knocked off.frown
