I am not really into motorbikes and have never owned one but do appreciate the racing aspect
In my Book 2 there is a chapter of my slight involvement with the sport as a 'gofer' for a couple of teams in the early 90s mainly with Steve Hislop (RIP)
Watching Carl Fogarty on TV reminded me of those very enjoyable weekends
This photo from Brands Hatch Superbikes in 1993
Here Carl with his wife Michaela and the team manager..a well known chap whose name I cannot remember

Re: Book 2...Some more of Foggy...again Brands 1993...me 'gofering' for the weekend
I would have been happy to help for free but my 'boss', Colin Seeley, insisted on paying me £100.
I would have paid that to do it !

Off at a tangent a bit

A very youthful Jeremy Clarkson at the Alexandra Palace or NEC Motorcycle show probably about 1992
I used to help Brandons of Hawick at these shows

An invitation to attend the 1994 Isle of Man TT could not be resisted..see Book 2
My son and I lay in the ditch on the outside of this corner at Cronk-Nymona
Maybe not the safest place but good to watch Steve Hislop approach at 150mph on his Castrol -Honda
Steve won that day

This was the day !

This rather scruffy photo is of me and the Boxer at Brighton Speed Trials in around 1978
The event still runs every September along Madeira Drive by the sea
I took part three times in the 1970s with the 275GTB, Daytona and the 365 Boxer
Two cars at a time..then a standing start kilometre
Now only a quarter mile..I can understand why
After 1K you are going quite quick but the braking area after crossing the line was very short and it was a
matter of locking up to stop....hitting a concrete barrier or turning right into the sea.
The choice was yours.

The Boxer weekend came back to haunt me 14 years later in a non-motoring way
All documented in Book 1

In 2014 Caroline Lucas, the only Green Party MP, prompted the local council to stop the event on eco grounds
A massive petition signed by thousands ( 8000 in the first two weeks) and supported by local businesses made sure the event was saved

This 1970 Ferrari 365GT 2+2 was the Ferrari I liked least
I only bought as it was fairly cheap at £2200 in 1977
Although a V12 4.4 litre it was a heavy car that got nowhere fast
Has not appreciated over the years in the way that most Ferrari models have....

The Miura I owned 1974-76 featured on the front of this magazine a few years ago
I paid £4000 for the car
Recently on sale in Australia ( where I sold it to) for £1,300,000

Over the years this has become a very high profile Lamborghini because of the Twiggy supermodel attachment
It features in my Book 1 & 2

The old boy's finished book 1 and really enjoyed it, so thanks. It's actually inspired him to dig out his various albums of pictures of the cars he's owned over the years (which was a lot).

He thinks you're probably quite a sort, his words, not mine, 'He's a bit Essex lad, isn't he'?

laugh
