You can get them for peanuts now! Probably a reason for that, I don't know smile

I once owned a Mk3 Polo G40, definitely a forgotten hot hatch, and there's only 110 left on the roads over here.

115bhp, supercharged 1.3 8v in an 800kg car. Fantastic engine and a fantastic noise.

They are going up and up in value, especially un-molested versions smile

I think people wouldn't have been ready for a 160bhp small hatch they tipped the scales at under 900kg back in 1986!
Indeed, the lift off oversteer would have claimed a few more unwitting victims too! hehe

IIRC, not one single magazine managed to get close to that, including in Japan. Realistically, it was closer to 6.5-7.0.
That don't surprise me one iota. Whoever got 5.7 (if they did!) must have been a one-off; with everything in its favour... And probably broke the clutch/trans in the process. wink

If they really wanted to get in on the hyper hatch race they could have bashed it in the 205 too.
IIRC, their WAS a 205 Mi16! i.e. a pukka model in Peugeot's line up intended for the FDM.

Piggot also did a turbo version - called "T16" - of the 405 Mi16 4x4 with 200PS (LHD for FDM only) -- I would have loved to have of them back in the 90s...

306 S16. The forerunner to the aforementioned XSi.

IIRC, I think it had a 155bhp 8v version of the GTI-6's 167bhp 16v 2.0.

No, no 8v, it had the 16v iron block engine out of the later 405 Mi16.
...1992 - 2.0 16v 150-155bhp iron block - ZX 16v, early Xantia VSX 16v, 306 S16, 405 Mi16 ph2

The 306 you're thinking of was probably the 130bhp 2.0 8v XSi.
Already been dealt with fellas - see page 5 <<< smile

Never a factory built 205 Mi16 to my knowledge, but they must have played around!

The 405 you're thinking of with the T16. It was the ph2 2.0 16v lump but with one of the first variable-vane turbochargers fitted to a production car.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Peugeot did produce a 16v 205 with 160bhp for their home market. Ho hum - prob a load of bks then lol.

Yeah, I added "T16" to my original post. wink

Love the BX, I used to have a Black 1991 version.

Very quick then, performance not too shabby these days.

The M16 engine is bonkers above 4000rpm.

I'd love another.

Does everyone know that the Peugeot 309 was available in M16 form in Europe. I have lustful thoughts about these too.

I know they were $58k, i didn't think they were £50k in the U.K.? (that would explain why so few sold) From what i've read they never sold them all. Evo rate them in their 10 worst cars list http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/2049...

Not to my taste, but if owners are happy, then that's all that matters i guess.

So they tested it but don't know how it handles?
The Evo boys are just that good. They can dab oppos without even getting in a car.

The EK9 - want! want! want! (in the above Championship White, naturally). A genuine HOT hatch.

Who remembers Performace Car's quote? Something along the lines of:-

"0 to 60 not in 9. Not 8. Not 7. Not 6. But 5.7. Five point seven!"

Edited by joz8968 on Friday 14th October 19:07
Also remember they compared it to the Integra Type R which got 5 stars, the EK9 only got 3 iirc.

Anyway, can we have a 'Forgotten Coupes' next....?

Gutmann did some aftermarket 205 Mi16s - Performance Car tested one against the Turbo Technics 175bhp 1.9 205 over 20 years back

BX for me (and pleasantly surprised that many others share the sentiment). Had 2 16Vs back in the day and they were fast and fun yet practical too and, as others have commented, very well equipped (discs all round with ABS, electric sunroof, 4x elec windows (the rear switches for which were mounted on the back of the central console between the front seats), electric roof, remote locking, alloys, and possibly more that I've long since forgotten).

I also remember an advert for them along the lines of it was Marcello Gandini's favourite car... er, after some of the others he designed such as various Lambos and Maseratis.

Yeah, sadly I think Perf. Car said it was akin to driving a DC2... But "whilst wearing thick gloves and wellies", or something along those lines.

That last level of feedback was lacking, when compared to the DC2. frown
