RE: Spotted: Ford Escort RS1600i...
Discussion
Ive owned most of the RS Fords since I started driving in 1977. Ive had 3 RS1600is and in my opinion they are the finest out of all the RSs Ive owned. The car handles beutifully and the seats are simply something to behold.
This car was I believed owned by the RSOC RS1600i registrar, Tony Fuller, who has over the years bought cars with less and less miles as they come along. It will without question be genuine as anyone who knows Tony will corroborate.
I sold my 3 owner 30k miles pristine red one for 8k in 2010. This one has to be the best example in the country to date. Is it worth the money, it is to someone who is willing to pay it.
Who would have thought that Mk1 escort pops would have been making 8k when you could have bought a similar one for 250 quid in 1985.
You cant say the car is crap on a site dedicated to performance cars it is part of Ford RS heritage and as such should be shown a bit of respect

like most of these guys with garage queens they're living in cloud cuckoo land.
No matter how clean it may be I wouldn't even pay half that, remember it's still an old MKIII Escort.....
easy to keep a car in that condition when it's not used, lovely example all the same but no thanks!!!!

I remember trying to find one back in 1994. Although the only colour that i wanted was Graphite grey:
Think they may have also been made in Diamond White, Sunburst Red, Metalic Caspian Blue and Black (not sure about Stratos silver)?
Anyway..... Even back then it was hard trying to find nice ones!
Gave up in the end and bought a Series 1 RS Turbo.
I notice the start of this thread mentions that £3000.00 is the starting point for 'nice' ones, I've never seen 'nice' ones for any less than about £5000.00
Seems even Mk2 XR2's are at £3000.00 upwards now for nice ones.

It's all a bit of a shame really, I am sure someone will pay that price for it, but as a result they will never want to drive it. I think these heritage cars are fine but they should get used instead of just sitting around having all their engine seals perishing and other components seizing.....
Drive them, show them, lend them to magazines for features and then restore them every 10 years or so, never mind the mileage.

Sorry, but for a dealer to say that it hasn't done enough miles to require a service is preposterous.
You obviously either didnt read my reply correctly or you are just trying to be funny I clearly stated that the car has got reciepts etc for services , it simply hasnt had a stamp in the book as previous owners chose not to have this done as the car HAS NOT reached the miles that the service book states it should be stamped
The reciepts kept are there to show the car has been correctly mainatained through its life
Funny how people seem to have selective vission and hearing , lol
Sadly a website like this that is supposed to be a website for car lovers most seem so negative
You could buy a low miles rs500 4 years ago for 15k , now the same car will cost you 55k , how do you think this hapened ?
simple , people asked the money and people paid it .
How do you think car values rise ? its simple ,
I do understand that most cant understand how things work and accept that but please think about high value cars like mk1 rs200 now selling for 20k plus for a welded / repainted / restored cars , you could buy these a few years ago for 3k
Its hard when you are the one who has one of the best " high value " cars on the market as its accepted you will be critisized regards it and i accept it , all i will say is in a couple of years time i am posotive many will remember this thread and think , wow look at the prices now

seeing the price of old escorts these days makes me sick
only because about 8 years ago i sold my mk1 scort with a lancer 2000 turbo (arguable an EVO 0)running gear for, well doubt you can get a mk1 shell now for that price!!!
sorely missed, it was fun confusing rs turbos/cossys lol!!!

Love it stunning RS1600I
Always preferred this to the series one turbo.
Had my share of fast fords in the late 80's early 90's and drove a few of these.
Sorry though the car isn't worth 26k or 16k IMO.
For one its not an investment its never going to be like the Mark 2 RS 1800 or the Mark 1 twin cam and to be honest you can't drive it.
I'd sooner have a mint cossie
At this sort of money your into Fez's and a nice 911 & lets face it what would you prefer in your garage?

Thankyou to those who have pm"ed and emailed me , interesting stories and some of you also have very interesting cars
It would seem that there are some people who do understand the fine things in life may cost a little more and if you want the best then you need to happy to pay the extra
Oh and thanks for the funny emails etc , good to see you manage to get to the computer while your mummy isnt looking , lol

Most posters are missing the point here - sad and a bit blinkered.
Last time I was in Monaco I went to see Prince Albert's car collection. An incoherent but utterly wonderful set of cars, including a FIAT 600 jolly - a strange little blob with no doors, wicker seats and a caravan awning for a roof.
Probably everyone in here would take one look at it and say 'WTF'.
But it is practically unused and probably priceless...

The economy is quite different now compared to 4 years ago. Look at how high end car prices have fluctuated over the last 5 years. You could buy cars like Gallardos for silly money at one point, then they shot back up.
Regardless of the price of this car, what a buyer is willing to spend will depend on the economy unless they are not affected by it.

Now I'll take the RS200 for 20k please!Paul
Funny how often the final "0" gets dropped on PH when talking about the RS2000. You could add it to the price.
From a dealer. Save £16k and be able to actually use & enjoy the car as it was intended!
