I'd also consider M Paras too. They are rather sexy alloys.

Hopefully wont have to whizz off this time
Would bring mine too...except it's SORN at the moment...plus I'm on-call (groan!).

Maybe I'll sneak over in the C124 though. What time are you going?

Yes, fantastic wheels. I had a set on my Individual 7er. 18's do compromise the ride on the 8er though.

Yup. Just a burst hose in a ridiculously inaccessible space. That will teach me to do warp 7 in a car that's an unknown quantity...

I was also on the hunt for an 8 Series when this thread started, lots of useful info and also a lot of jealousy! Just noticed the updates and thought I'd add my new addition!

It took me from April 2012 to the end of January 2013 to find the right car after hunting the length and depth of the country going to see some real sheds. Finding out that asking price definitely doesn't relate to the condition/quality of the car. I found one in perfect condition, but could not live with the beige dash so had too keep on hunting. In the end this one came up:

'99 840 Ci Sport
51,000 Miles - Full service history by specialists and main dealers, Inspection II just carried out
3 owners
Velvet Blue - I love how it looks blue or a deep purple depending on the light with very subtle glittery blue flakes in the paint.
Hardly a mark on her with only very localised rust - going into the bodyshop next month to get that fixed too.

It pushed my budget further than I wanted to, but I think the car is worth it to me.

Many happy miles and smiles to everyone in their eights thumbup

Take a wild guess from the username lol

The Jaguar no question, you have the waft ability with almost super-car performance should you need it.

I had a BMW hire car when the Jaguar went in for repairs and could not wait to get the Jaguar back.

Clarkson is bang on when he says the Jaguar has soul, the BMW has none. You have to actually drive both to realise that, and there's your answer.

Try both and pick the one that is right for you.

I clearly missed the last few posts.

Excellent cars there, gents. The interiors are especially cheeky. I did find one in Atlantis Blue with that interior but it was a bit rich for the whole package.

I already have. As nice as the Jag is to look at, the 8 delivers everything I need.

When did Clarkson say the 8 series had no soul?

Not specifically the 8 but all BMWs iirc, In fact Mercedes too was mentioned.

The best BMWs are the M3 & M5, as nice as they are I would still take the Jaguar. The effortless thrust of the V8 supercharged engine and the slick almost imperceptible gearchanges have to be experienced to believe,

Having said that I am considering buying a Mercedes SLK, as the prices of the XKR convertible seem to be far too high to me. So perhaps soul isn't everything?

I'm sorry JAGXJR you really are talking rubbish laugh

All BMW's have no soul? Lol. Like, the 3 series which every time it comes out gets awards for being the best to drove for example?

You should be sorry E38Ross, my opinion is just that, my opinion.

Just because you don't agree does not make it rubbish.

In any case I was quoting someone else's opinion so perhaps you should take it up with him?

I get that you bought the car that was right for you and respect that, as you perhaps should others.
