And another great talk now. The engineering on this car is phenomemal.

14,000 lbs of thrust achieved - which is pretty good for a relatively small rocket motor.

Andy Green is very charismatic and a great speaker.

So looking forward to seeing this project develop and then reach it's conclusion.

I wonder if the fire at the end caused any behind the scenes dramas, it seemed to take the cameras out. I imagine at a 1000 mph that would have been put out by the airflow as andy mentioned.

Are those blade casings machined from solid?? (the ribbed bits ;-) (or are they high pressure die castings, which would be a LOT cheaper)

Nope, it was just a small fire, caused by some unburnt fuel grain in the rocket tube, not great surprise to us.

Yep is was there & yes, still grinning, it was the best possible outcome from a rocket system perspective.

My vet was at the rocket test - he said the vibration was pretty immense!

Nope, they're chemi-etched forgings - lower cost than machined forgings, better properties and stability than casting.

Not any more they're not. These days, due to environmental concerns about the chemicals used to etch they are milled.

Do you know if they changed the grid pattern when they went to milling? I seem to remember the original grid pattern was chosen around the chemi process?

Can't stake my like on it as I've not seen a chemi & a non chemi-etched casing side by sie, but when I was "playing" with the EJ200 & the Eurofighter at a maintenence hangar to make sure we were doing things in broadly the same way they looked pretty similar.

Got carried away, one name on the fin and a signed limited edition poster by andy and the team..

Certainly a fantastic project and looking forward to seeing it progress.
